HD Movie downloads

Signed up for PSN last night and decided to download the Iron Man trailer, all completed but when I played it I was dissapointed to have the sound in AAC not Dolby Digital, fancy pics, sub standard sound. Are they all like that?

Re: HD Movie downloads

I download trailers from Apple, some are in 5.1, and when I convert them to MP4 for the PS3 they play in 5.1

Re: HD Movie downloads

There is a real lack of trailers on there though. Don't understand why they don't get more on there.

Don't mean to pee on anyones fireworks but I have it on BD and sad to say the English sound is in True HD with the more widely used dolby dig 5.1 in french!!!!!!!!

and yep...it proper ruins the film as the only real way without an HD decoder is Psuedo sound (sounds ok, but never the same as DD or DTS!)

Watching it and then its off to the trade in store!!!!!

Are you sure? All my 720p H.264/MPEG4 5.1DD files when converted with mkv2vob play with perfect DD5.1 on my PS? Are you sure its not just the low quality sound in the trailers?

That's mad. How can you tell online, which Blu-ray disks have what audio formats as I don't want to fall foul of that!?

Re: HD Movie downloads

Hang on - our PS3 is connected to our old Samsung DVD Player for 5.1 sound.

Last night we watched Kung Fu Panda (much better than I expected!) on Bluray, I was actually pleased to see that English track had sound in TrueHD but all the options were "only" DD5.1 - now you're telling me that because we played it through an old DVD player we didn't get "proper" 5.1? I didn't expect TrueHD but surely something as good as, or better than, DD5.1?

You won't get TrueHd or DTS-MA without a Receiver capable of outputting them. They are the next codec's up from Dolby Digital 5.1

Re: HD Movie downloads

Yeah, so did it automatically downgrade to DD5.1, or a worse "pseudo sound" as Bartst3r said?

Makes it sound like we didn't get TrueHD, as I expected - but we got something inferior to DD5.1 instead? I assumed it would automatically play a DD5.1 track instead of TrueHD?

Re: HD Movie downloads

Does anyone know when/if Sony will be launching their HD movie service?

I've heard it talked about in the past, but no sign of it as yet.

Sony really are years behind Microsoft, in more ways than one.

What is Pseudo sound? never seen that in the PS3 decoder options, I haven't got a clue what Ironman sends to a non HD source. I would have thought the PS3 would send whatever it can. Next time you play it, press the display button on the remote, and see what it says. I reckon it was DD5.1

3rd Quarter 2009 is all they've said so far. It's being released the same time as a music download store
