Is web surfing secure using the PS3?

Hi,
I've recently set up internet browsing via my PS3 and have a couple of dumb questions if I may?

Firstly, how secure is surfing via the PS3? When I set my PS3 up to web browse via my wireless router I didnt have to input any WEP code into the PS3, it just picked up the existing connection it had with my PS3 that is uses for system updates. Is that normal?

Secondly, i've noticed a Browser Security option on the PS3 for 'Trend Micro'. Does this mean that the PS3 itself does not have anti virus/firewall protection built in? I'm confused as to why this would be needed.
Cheers

Router connection is quite normal, it all uses the same connection

As for browsing, it uses a version of Linux so is certainly far safer than a windows based machine
