hi,
i am about to go to honk kong for a weeks holiday and wondered if i bought any games from there if they would work on my uk bought ps3? or are they like dvd's divided into regions?. can you unlock a ps3 to play other area games, if so how?

All PS3 games are totally region free The only caveat is that if you buy any addon content from the PSN store then you have to buy it from the store that matches the region of the game. For example if I buy the UK version of Call of Duty and then want to buy an add on map pack then I will have to buy that map pack from the UK store.
