Re: UK Video store

This month apparantly. Looking forward to it and I hope the pricing is sensible.

If it is then I may consider dropping my lovefilm rental in favour of this.

Re: UK PSN Video Store

are they doing a rental service for all films (like lovefilm), or is it like itunes and a timed rental for each individual movie?

Re: UK Video store

They are timed rentals. 24 hours from when you start watching.

At $3 here for an SD rental it's a bit steep but for a boring night and wanting to watch something new, its quite good

At last - thanks for the heads up. I have just done a quick search and you could be right - the actual store might go live some time after the launch party:

Re: UK Video store

Confirmed now for next thursday. You will need to download and install the new firmware update which will release next wednesday evening/ thursday morning.

Possibly also in the roll out will be facebook integration and customizable options.

I have a question though, whats the quality going to be like, say incomparison to blu-ray discs.
I have a solid blu-ray collection, but am thinking of the jump to digital diownloads, I'm just a little concerned about the audio and video compression.

That's great news. Not sure why I am excited about this, I have LoveFilm and Sky HD full movie package but I suppose this gives me the immediacy that's missing from those services (and I am not tempted by Apple TV until they launch a subscription service).

In terms of quality it won't be 1080p so it all boils down to how they compress things- not sure what the quality is like in the states? Blu ray has stepped up for me now that I have a newer TV, it always looked great on my 40w2000 Sony but looks really amazing on my Sony 40w5500 so that will be my prefers choice for some time.

Thnaks mate. I've been in hospital since september and cant wait to get home tomy modest Samsung 40inch.

I've only just recently been able to get back with technology, so I'm looking forward to all the goodness.

No doubt, come boxing day, popcorn and a movie download service is going to make it the best christmas with friends and family in a long time.

stick with blu ray disc mate! only download seems way to big at the min. What happens when machine dies.... lots of backing up. what if you want to sell or trade? evan if you have the 250g its going to get full eventually. i have play tv and 1h + 1g on average and that is S/D.

utill they get sooper cheap. and memory is sooper big and can be increased without haveing to change evrything i am not going digital on movies or games. I will on music but nothing else.

also need to note some games cant be backed up ie killzone, res 5 (this may be solved with a patch now), sf5 ect.... games lost!

I have just read that the event on Thursday is just an event to announce the date and show off the functionality so a bit more waiting it would seem.

In the promotional email i had from Sony last week it did say that the video store was "Coming in November" so we shouldn't have to wait long after this announcement event

Re: UK Video store

Can't see them having a lanuch party and then take months to "put it out there" (err, actually Sony do have form for that ) so hopefully it will show up in the next couple of weeks. Personally I am not sure the service will drag me away from Lovefilm or Sky HD.

Agree, hopefully days rather than weeks. Re
your point on LoveFilm - whoever launches a

Its an interesting one. All the broadcasters have got into this thing way ahead on the streaming front as they have the catalogue and rights etc. A company like Lovefilm must be looking at Netflicks and be desperate to copy the business model. I just can't see how they would ever manage to compete with the broadcasters to win rights. If Skyplayer came to the PS3 then Sony would have hands down the best media device on the market.

Re: UK Video store

SkyPlayer is a great service but I think they show films around 10 months after DVD release (apart from Box Office)? A same day release for download/stream (as part of subscription) would be great. Not sure how long you have been with LoveFilm but do you recall it went off line for months and I thought they would come back with something amazing but they didn't. Subscription has to be the way to go, I spend £120 on Spotify annually, far more than I would have spent before on music. I am sure that the same model and benefits work/apply to films.

Re: UK Video store

From the rumours, Lovefilm will still be better value for money, and blu-ray of course. Am I right in guessing these films will be in MP4 format like most of the Video's on PSN? Hence will only be stereo and not surround?
