Received message re free CoD? Spam?

The subject probably doesn't make much sense but that's because I couldn't make any sense of a message I got sent to my PSN ID today. Read something like '500000 users send on this message cod will be free on the store October 1st...'. Don't quote me but it was something along
those lines. Also mentioned Halo and l4d! I couldn't make head nor tail of it! Is it possible this is spam or some kind of viral crap?

I thought the ps3 was a safe haven from all this kind of rubbish I get on my pc everyday?

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

Sounds like spam. I've never received anything, like this, but I've seen the odd thread of a similar nature.

They've probably picked up your PSN, from players met on the XMB.

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

Yeah, it's spam - I got the message about Halo and Left 4 Dead too

The worrying thing was the sender wasn't in my "players met" list so either they'd made a note of my PSN id some time ago or they'd got it from somewhere else (maybe from here or the PSN forum?).

I hope this is just a passing phase, it'll be a pita to get hundreds of "send this message to all your friends and you'll get X for free" messages every day. Maybe Sony need to start working on a spam filter for PSN messaging.

It's only stupid people who'll send them to you, similar to those who'd believe those Nigerian scammers .

Or personally I think people need to realise it's ******** and a stupid chainmail is the most stupid thing to do when you could be playing games!

It was...... untill someone introduced copy & paste
Actually that came out wrong - C&P is a brilliant thing to have, it's just the idiots who abuse it!

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

I got a friend request from a user called marsman01 asking for my PSN email and password so that they can download that 'thing' I have and they will do the same in return! Funnily enough, the user was not on my players met list either!!

Same happened to me a while ago. I gave him a load of childish/rude bull for the email and password. It was well funny, he was sending me messages saying "are you sure, it's not working" He thought I was a complete mug but in the end he was probably the biggest mug in the world that day.

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

Those spams are annoying the heck out of me.

Everytime I log in I am greeted with at least two of them.

The very first one seemed quite possibly genuine and it was a chain message as a protest about the 360 version of MW2 getting the map packs a few months in advance of the PS3.

So the message was saying for everyone to put MW2 as their clan tag for one tag in protect to Activision.

I did not spread it around but thanked those that sent me it.

But then the barrage of rubbish had started.

I have had - Halo ODST and L4D2 will come to the PS3 if this is passed on so many times.

Forza 3 will be released for PS3 if this message gets passed on

Money (can't remember how much - think £15) will be credited to your PSN account if you pass this on to so many people.

The most recent is:

MW2 beta codes will be given if this is passed on

It is seriously blimming annoying.

Ditto.

And any randomers get added to my block list.

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

I got another spam yesterday, the "send to 150 people for a free MW2 beta" message and I got a couple of friend requests too (completely random though as these people weren't in my "players met" list or from AVF). I've deleted and blocked them but I'm getting a bit worried about this as it seems to becoming more commonplace.

I got that last night too. It is just grating as it said specifically in the message that they will charge for PSN unless you send this to all your friends, and then it said "AND I MEAN ALL YOUR FRIENDS."

Like for one Sony are going to include shouting CAPS sentences like that.

And two, like Sony are going to give a damn if you send it to your friends or not, if they were going to charge for PSN they wouldn't care if you sent it to the ruddy Pope.

I really wanted to the delete that person for their absolute stupidity as I have even said in my bubble comment don't send me them, but I got it from the 10 year old son of a friend who is also on my list.

The problem is that I have messaged him a few times to say its all spam and ignore it but he just does not listen.

Maybe if I told him to send to all his friends he finally might.

Re: Received message re free CoD? Spam?

I've also had a few and I dealt with them the same way that ridgerama did. Most were from people that I'd been playing games such as BF 1943 , MAG beta or Uncharted 2 beta with. Although there was one from an AVF member
