How to connect to PS3 network thru PC

well my router has packed it in as well and I was wondering if i can connect thru my PC? i tried last night but the ps3 could not pick up ip address or connect. when i connected my cat 5, on the network menu a pop up came up to say that the connection is limited or not connected. please let me know what to do ....

i use to connect thru wired router

This thread may help

PS3 to PC DIRECT with either crossover or normal?

you will need a crossover cable if your PC doesn't have a Gigabit ethernet port. If it has then a standard Cat5e/6 cable will be fine.

whats a Gigabit ethernet port ? is it just a standard ethernet point?

when i connect he cat5 i get a limited or no connectivity pop up !

gigabit port is a 1000mb ethernet port. PS3 has one, some PC's do some don't. you need to check the spec of your PC's port. if it's normal 10/100mb then you will need a crossover Cat5 cable between the PS3 and PC. If your PC has a Gigabit port then a standard Cat5 between them will work.

Then just make sure both the PS3 and PC have network settings configured as per the thread i linked to above.
