Homeplugs

Hi,

i have a 100% wireless connection to the PSN but i still get quite alot of lag in games like call of duty 4, and because my ps3 is quite far away from my router i am considering getting homeplugs, but would they make any difference? and do they effectively give u a wired connection. if they do make a differnce, i'd be grateful if any1 could reccomend any particular homeplugs that are on the cheep side.

thanks

Re: Homeplugs

I've got a couple of Newlink Powerline 200s - really easy to set up (well, all I did was plug them in!). They come with a diagnostic CD that runs on a PC and it reported I was getting 140mbps throughput which isn't bad at all. I guess this is dependant on how noisy your internal wiring is though.

I got a pair for about 60 quid so one is currently plugged into my broadband router and one into my PS3 but I'm thinking of buying a third so I can connect my PC to it too (it's currently connected via wireless). I used to have my PS3 connected via wifi too but it was just too laggy for gaming.

The only problem I have now is I've run out of excuses for being rubbish at COD4

Re: Homeplugs

Yes, it seemed to improve connectivity. Unfortunately due to the way COD4 works I don't think it cures the lag problem though (eg. if you join a game where everyone including the host is in the US then you're still going to have a bit of a struggle).

Re: Homeplugs

I use 85mbps homeplugs from here cost £45 or so for a pair with the leads etc.

No problems with them and 20meg BB from Virgin.

My network is BB modem in to router, wired to a PC, wireless to a laptop and homeplugs to PS3.

No conflicts, no problems as FMRL says they are plug n play

Re: Homeplugs

Hi all

I'am sorting out my nw house buliding works etc, at the mo I have my sky router pluged in upstairs connected to my PC and running my PS3 wireless.

How do these homeplugs work ? and would I be better off chasing a cable from the router direct to the PS3 or would I loss any signel due to cable lengh ? ?

Thanks

If your doing works already just put Cat6 cable in. Homeplugs are good (better than wi-fi) but will never beat a wired connection.

Did your homeplugs come with diagnostic software so you can see what transfer speed you're getting?

What speed can your plugs handle?
