AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

Hi all,

Ive happily been playing call of duty online over the past 6 months, but this morning ive suddenly got the above error, ive managed to get online a couple of times today but been thrown off after about 20 mins
I have tried various methods to get back online but nothing seems to work, i use a wired connection and the settings are the same as my laptop which works fine, also i am able to use the ps3 internet browser while im still getting the error trying to sign in.

Any help will be great

Thanks

Yup exactly the same, as far as im aware this can be left like this permanantly and should remain in working fashion for the duration that it is left like this.

it won't explain that no sorry COD IS peer 2 peer. You will get bad lag if the person you are connected to connection is weak.

the more green bars the stronger your connection to that host. The less lag you will have.

looks like it was a problem with sky but like r4zb3rry then fix wil sort this and you will be fine

No you need to put the DNS server IP addresses in from www.opendns.org

this happened to myself last night too. Running Sky broadband, wired netwrk with sky router connecting PC, PS3 and Xbox360 through ethernet (Cat5e) and Wii & laptop wirelessly.

Had Sky broadband for over 2 years no problems, PS3 connecting for a year no problems then last night this happens, affecting only the PS3 and could I sort it, could I heck!

I'll try the DNS solution advised here and let you know - but I'm very curious as to why these problems suddenly occur...

Happened to my Sky connection too - a good friend of mine sorted it by altering the dns numbers.

He suggested that Sky have begun blocking certain ports within the router settings to 'calm' traffic internet down or limit the usage of certain applications. – psn being one of them.

I've run sky broadband for over a year now with no problems but since last week the dreaded dns error above.

I phoned sky and they said it was a PS3 problem but Sony said it’s a router setting problem.

Anyhow, all is well and so far no issues.

I think it's more likely that Sony have changed the IP addresses of the PSN servers or added some new ones to cope with load and some of the UK ISP's own DNS servers are just out of date. OpenDNS.org servers are kept very up to date.

Problem seemed to start for me following the latest update, but fixed now.

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

started getting this error during/after downloading the latest firmware 2.76 this weekend. Thank god for this forum otherwise i don't know what i would have done. No more online play? and how would you update the firmware without the new dns numbers. There must be loads of people out there with this problem but have not found this solution. Surely the cause must be found and resolved? Surely its up to sony to sort this with the isp's?

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

Ive just had this aswell today. It was ok on Friday as I downloaded the Infamous demo, havent been on the PS3 since Friday. Im on Sky and the Router has been rebooted since Friday, but I havent rebooted it since I got this error.

Everything comes back as fine in the connection test even the connection to the PSN comes back fine, so have come on here and found to put 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 in the DNS settings and it now works.

What is going on? Im on Sky (Sky Max, Unlimited) and as other people are on other ISPs it cant just be a Sky issue, and Im sure Sky wouldnt block the PS3.

When I reboot the router I will try the auto settings for DNS and see if it was just a router issue, but for now its working.

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

I have been using the 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 for months now and all has been perfect, until tonight I'm getting the dreaded error again!!!

So I thought I would try this "OpenDNS" method and I am seriously confused. When I click on manually enter DNS settings, I only have 4 spaces (e.g. 4.2.2.2) but the OpenDNS thing has 11 numbers (208.67.222.222). How do I input this when there are only 4 spaces?

Sorry if I'm being an idiot, I have no knowledge of this whatsoever..

Thanks in advance

The DNS is an IP number so u can have any number from 0-255 inbetween each of the dots, so you can have 0.0.0.0, 255.255.255.255 and any other combination inbetween. So just enter the numbers exactly as you have above and you will be fine.

In the first space enter 208, in the second enter 67, in the third enter 222 and in the fourth enter 222. The space to fit them in will expand as you type the numbers in. ie any number up to 255 can be input in any of the spaces

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

hi all i had this problem with my previous ps3.
i now have a slim and a replacement 60gb both of which i have yet to change the dns settings,my ps3 occasionally drops out but so does my laptop i reboot the router using the software or hard reboot and after 10mins its working again.
im with sky and know about the dns issue but previously this had no effect on my laptop.
i will change the dns on both ps3s tomorrow but the problem i think is elsewhere, also it seems to be more of an issue on a sunday, maybe a coincidence but a couple of weeks back i happened 5 times in an hour or so today it was 3 during the afternoon.
also on the laptop via the netgear router software when i check its status during these drop outs it shows that the laptop is still connected, but i get no web sites.
another problem when it does reconnect is that i generally refresh my home page which is google but for some reason it still shows as timed out but if i try another site it will connect but if i go back to google it still wont load up.
any suggestions guys please.

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

Try changing your router's DNS settings from 'auto from ISP' to the opendns.org ones listed earlier in the thread. This will save channging them all on the machines seperately

Re: AHHHH - Help DNS 80710102 error

I had a chat a couple of weeks ago with the IT guy at work. I was useing the opendns settings for a few months fine. He said the DNS(domain name server) is just somewhere the ps3 goes to to be directed to whatever its looking for. He said basically the DNS is like an exchange with the address of whatever the ps3 is wanting to find. He reckons it was in my case sky possibly shutting a server down for work and suggested switching back to the auto DNS settings to see if it has been sorted. This i did and the 'auto' DNS numbers have been fine again.
So it looks as though it could be a temperary think for some like me.
