Question arrrghhh ps3 decided not to connect for some reason!?

Hi - I am having traumas!

I have had my PS3 for about 2 years. Every now and again it randomly won't connect to my wireless - but usually resolves. Yesterday - i turned it on, it usually connects straight up to my virgin media wireless - however, this time it wouldn't connect.

I then turned it off - tried again - it connected for about 2 minutes. I then turned it off again - and it just will not connect. I will search wireless and it will say it cannot find any.

I have done a full system restore - found my internet - but it will not connect again. No probs with the internet - works fine and laptop and was working fine on ps3 until it randomly decided not to.

The new call of duty is out tomo and i'll be gutted if i can't ply it online - can anyone recommend anything. I'm not overly technical on internet jargon etc. Thanks a LOT in advance! I just don’t understand how one minute it’s working fine and the next it’s not. I haven’t changed anything??

What you may well find is that someone living near to your house has had a new wireless router and is probably using the same or a similar wireless channel to you. If you log in to your wireless router from your laptop then you should be able to change the wireless channel.

This happens to me quite often with my laptop, there seems to be about 6 wireless networks near my house (and god knows how many others that arent broadcasting their SSIDs!).

Of course if that doesnt fix it you could always wire it in (best way IMO!)

Hi Workshed - thanks for your reply.

How would i go about logging into my wireless router from my laptop? I do actually have another ongoing issue (my luck!) in that my desk top won't work - i installed the Virgin Media on my desktop. Can i still access the router from my laptop?

Also - i have tried an ethernet cable and this also did not let me go online? Do you reckon my ps3 is broke?

Yeah you ought to be able to access it from your laptop. If you go to your browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox/whatever) what happens when you go to http://192.168.0.1 (if that does nothing try http://192.168.1.1 )

The ethernet cable should have worked but there may be some other reason for it, i wouldnt have thought that your PS3 is broken.

I assume you've tried rebooting the router already....

...if not try it.

Hi Uridium – this might sound like a ridiculously daft question but; by “rebooting” – do you mean turning the power off and on again? If so – yes! But that’s a technical as I’ve managed so far! Thanks for you reply!

Yes, just whip the power out for a few seconds.
