A friend of mine and I have limited success whenever we try and connect on various PS3 games and I just cant understand it!?!?

Little Big Planet - no problems connecting
Burnout Paradise - no problems
Guitar Hero 3 - no problems

but then.....

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 - cant see each others games (despite both of us being able to connect to other games)
UFC Undisputed 2009 - accept the invite but then the loading screen goes half way up and then the person connecting gets the message "session is no longer available"!?!?!

I've never had to bother with opening ports etc on my router (a Linksys WAG160N) - maybe thats the problem??

Can anyone give me a detailed list of things I can try??
