If I buy a PS2 singstar game will it work on my new PS3?

Hi, I have a newish PS3 (80GB) and have never had a singstar game before. I would like to get the game but I am more interested in the older Singstar 80s and Singstar Disney PS2 games than the newer PS3 ones.

I have read some stuff about disk swapping but I presume you need a PS3 singstar game in the first place before you do the swap?

So, if I only own one of the older games, such as singstar 80s, will it work on my PS3? I have the latest system update on it.

No, you will need any of the PS3 singstars. I believe blockbuster were selling the Abba one for about 8 quid instore a week or 2 ago, probably the cheapest way. Also, argos were selling singstar Vol1 with mics for £17.99.

If you have a PS3 game, you can actually use any of the PS2 games, just press select and swap the disk the same way.

Even if your PS3 is not an original 60GB?

Yes, the feature was brought in a couple of patches ago. I have an 80Gb and use this method.

Yes, but don't forget you always need to boot a PS3 singstar disk to the song selection screen before you can use a ps2 disk.

Be careful as i don't think the old Disney sing it will work as it's not a proper singstar game........

Coming out of Leipzig, you may have read about a cool new SingStar PS3 disc swap feature which incorporates the SingStar PS2 library. We wanted to make sure everyone was up to speed on what the disc feature entailed, so here’s the lowdown from the SingStar development team:

SingStar track compatibility across PS2 & PS3 is enabled via the Disc Swap feature.

The feature has previously been available on SingStar games for both PlayStation 2 and PLAYSTATION 3, but for the first time owners of SingStar for PS3 will be able to play songs from PS2 discs in their collection.

While playing a SingStar PS3 disc, at the song select screen, hit the [select] button to swap discs and play the songs from the inserted disc. The songs are not saved to the hard drive.

This is a unique feature for SingStar and makes it possible for fans who have already built up their PS2 SingStar collection to continue enjoying it on PS3. It will be delivered via a free game update later this year and will work with all current SingStar PS3 discs. It will also be included on future SingStar PS3 discs releasing next year.

This new feature will work with all current PS3 system models and does not require a system software update.

It says ALL PS2 games should work.

Still won't work mate, as its not actually a singstar disk. The title is 'Disneys Sing It' The only disney one that works is the one mentioned by stonker.
