i can't believe this Sony still haven't sorted this out yet as a feature.
Me, my girlfriend and her brother and girlfriend are pretty good when it comes to singstar, one problem i have and i think would make the game more fun would be the inclusion of being able to remove the pitch indication bars during the song, so you can't really tell how well your doing until the end.
A few time when people don't know the song they just hum and then work out the pitch and can sometimes be a little annoying when your doing really well.

Now i know they feature this in the practise mode so sure should be availible as a feature in the main game.

Just punch them a few times till they stop!

Thats a no go in a singstar session!! Unless my in laws are singing (they are german and don't know the english at all!) then I let them off.
