Volume 1 or 2 for first timers?

Hi all
If I want to get Singstar for my brother and his wife in the states for Christmas, which version should i get?
If i get him V1 are all the extras that the other volumes have downloadable as updates? I know the track listings are different, but that's not a problem due to the singstore.
Im happy to get him V1, but dont want to miss out something important that is only available on one of the later volumes.

Cheers for the advice.

All versions of SingStar on the PS3 are the same provided you download the update (which you'll prompted to do when you play the disc for the first time).

The latest version number (which applies to Vol 1, 2, 3 and ABBA) is 2.22.

Vol. 2 has harmony duet mode which vol.1 does not.

Vol. 1 has better tracks.

I would buy vol.1

This is NOT true.

As I said in my previous post, when you load the Vol. 1 disc up for the first time, it will say there is an update available (currently version 2.22). Once the update is downloaded and installed, the various new features that have been added since Vol. 1 came out - including the harmony duet mode - will be available. A number of the tracks on the SingStore (which are accessible from the all four PS3 versions of SingStar currently available) take advantage of the harmony duet mode, so if London Studios had not patched Vol. 1 they would have been shooting themselves in the foot.

In addition, you can only access the SingStore if you have latest game update AFAIK.

Assuming games are region coded would you be able to play a game from the UK on a US machine or did they bring it from the UK>
