Singstar PS2 same as PS3?, also Microphone same too?

Hi,

I was just wanting some info on this game.

To briefly explain my predicament, but my niece, as "all" of her friends had the Wii and she felt left out got the Nintendo Wii for her birthday a couple of months back. This was to be her main present for the year.

You would think great right.

However some other friends now have this Singstar game which she loves. So she wants this for Christmas too. I am the one that knows about all the games consoles stuff so last week I had been asked to find someone selling it for the Wii. However from my looking it seems its a Sony only game. Meaning you cannot get it for the Wii.

Obviously nobody would be able to justify buying a £300 PS3 for Christmas when you have just given a Wii to a 7 year old for their birthday.

However she is still at the age where Santa Claus is very much real and seems to have infinite money at his disposal, so she has come to the conclusion that she got the Nintendo for a present off all her family members, and the Singstar and Playstation would be off Santa instead.

This is obviously causing problems. As nobody wants to go into the Santa Claus situation yet at her age.

As trying to think of another cheaper solution, I have my old PS2 which really no longer gets used. So my question would be is the Singstar games effectively exactly the same (to the eyes of a 7 year old) between the Ps3 and Ps2?

From what I can see there are around 15 different Singstar games for the Ps2, and three for the Ps3.

Also would all I need to buy is the microphone and that is it all set, also does the microphone work between both the PS2 and PS3 (hence if I saw the PS3 microphone cheaply I could just buy this to work with the PS2 too).

If not any ideas where the Ps2 compatible microphone can be bought cheaply.

i use the microphone's from singstar on the PS2 to use on the PS3, after all there connected via a usb hub device.

cant remember what the game is like but i think its the music and patterns on screen where the PS3 is the music video from the band.

Thanks, so to confirm they look and play effectively identical between the two?

As I can't imagine for a simple Karaoke type game it be needing too much graphical handling to make the PS2 unable to manage it.

The singing part looks the same as the singstar I have for my PS3, you can compare them on youtube

Thanks, Can I just ask if anyone knows of the cheapest place to get just the PS2 compatible Microphone.

I have tried searching amazon, PC World, HMV and Play but they mainly seem to want to sell them with a game for £40. (way too much).

I don't really trust Ebay for purchases like this, especially when I don't have a clue what I am buying and if it will work.

I am looking really for £15 for just the PS2 compatible mic with all the basics to just plug in and use, no bundled games.

Or if the game must be bundled for around £20-£25 max.

Can't help with the microphones but i got myself a couple of singstar games (ps2) out of Currys to play on my ps3 for £4.97. They're still this price if you can find them.....

HAd a look round the net and the only 2 I have found that come in under 22 quid for just the mics are these:

However I went out this morning to Argos and bought this for £22.50.

I bought it specifically for the two bundled Microphones, as like I say it will be used on the Ps2, not PS3. It seems it is the cheapest way to get the official mics that aren't refurbs or from unknown sellers (the cheapest PS2 game with the Mics in stock anywhere I could fine was £35).

Argos said four times in the case of my sale, without no prompting from me, that they will accept absolutely no returns whatsoever on this item for any reason even it its never been opened (not good customer service IMHO).

So if it turns out on Christmas Day the mic's won't work on the PS2, I think I will not only have ruined Christmas, but probably single handily emotionally stinted my niece.

Jack Bauer doesn't have to deal with this type of pressure

(Also to note she will be getting a PS3 for her next birthday when they drop in price due to the upgrade to the 45nm Cell occurring in Easter, so the PS3 game will not be going entirely to waste).

The mics will work on the PS2. There is no difference in the microphone hardware that is supplied with a PS2 or PS3 version of SingStar - they are exactly the same.

Sony have said they will release the microphones as a standalone item in the future, but have not confirmed when. Personally I think they are now holding out until the wireless mics eventually appear (it is unknown if they will work on both the PS2 and PS3).
