new slimline ps3 play singstar ps2 ?

does the new ps3 slimline 120gb bought today think it's firmware 3 play ps2 singstar games ?
i have the 1st ps3 singstar game on disc but when i try to press select nothing happens at all, i am on the screen were you select the song you want to play.
do i need a later disc , like vol 2 or 3 or abba or queen for it to swap for a ps2 singstar disc.
just not good at this and the kids are doing my head in lol

Not sure exactly what your post means mate but...

No the PS3 Slim does not play PS2 games. The console is not backwards compatible.

i been reading lower down on singstar threads you can swap a ps3 disc and then play ps2 singstar discs only
but i am not sure that i need vol 2, vol 3, abba are queen for the ps3 to do it.
many people have been able to do it but only on singstar games i think
i think vol1 on the ps3 may not able to do as it not got a update on the disc to do it and i dont have wireless internet at the moment to update the ps3.

These people will be using the 60GB version of the PS3 which does allow you to play PS2 games (Singstar & others).
If you've picked up the PS3 Slim expecting to play PS2 games (Singstar or any other) then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed because as mentioned previously this version of the console is not compatible with PS2 software.

no people been using 80gb etc, just trying to work what disc the update is on, i know the 60gb is backwards but why not just play the ps2 game in it straight away rather then swapping.

ok mate let me put it in plain english as everyone else has confused the subject by not understanding your question. You have a new slim PS3 which is up to date with the new fiirmware but not connected to the worldwideweb. Until you hook your ps3 up online you cannot download the update for disc swapping while in singstar. This option is not available until you insert one of the ps3 versions of singstar while you are online. The game will prompt you to download the update for the game alone. This update includes the facility to swap ps2 discs regardless of what version ps3 you have. Once update is done the PS3 version of singstar will give you the option midgame to press select and insert the PS2 disc. Hope that helps mate

thanks for the help , it's all sorted and the swap thing works now, 2 happy kids when they get back from school now.

BTW you were also right when you guessed that a newer disk would work straight away. The ABBA/QUEEN and POP edition disks already have the update included. Only the older disks require the update.

singstar is different
all ps2 singstar games work on all ps3's with a ps3 singstar game
