Singstar tracks from older versions ?

I have recently been persuaded to have a go at this , and I must admit is good fun, even better with alcohol.

I was having a look at the older discs and found some tracks I like, then had a look online and found that you can't seem to get them as an individual track download. The tracks include Starship - "Nothing going to stop us now" , Nickelback - "How you remind me" and several more from the PS2 Singstar Rock Ballads. Is there any reason for this, I don't want to go and buy the whole disc for the sake of a few tracks ?

I have also noticed that when looking online via Singstar , there are 853 songs available to purchase, yet when you look at the official Singstar website via a PC , it says all artists (890 songs) , so what are the different tracks that we're not seeing via the PS3 ? and why are there two different figures ?

Re: Singstar tracks from older versions ?

Old PS2 are actually good value, the reason for the limited availability from Singstore for these older titles is probably simply down to contracts only being signed for PS2 disks. I doubt anyone would have thought to sign over publishing rights to future playstation systems at the time, and I'm pretty sure they won't just allow it to happen without compensation.

The difference in songs totals could be language versions.

First of all, thanks for the reply.

After having thought about this for a while, I found the above, whilst sounding like a perfectly reasonable answer, but not quite right and I didn't know why.
I figured out why it didn't quite sit right(nothing to do with your answer, just something that didn't fit ) , and that's because Sony have made the PS2 titles of Singstar compatible with the PS3 (as long as you have a version of Singstar for the PS3) , so surely if there was any issue of rights , then that would have been addressed before making the PS2 versions of Singstar compatible for the PS3 ?

Which ( I think) is why I posted the question in the first place.

Re: Singstar tracks from older versions ?

The ability to play them is one rights issue, the possibility of republishing them (which is what would be done in the singstore) would not have been covered.

Remember the original 60gb PS3 had the ability to play PS2 titles anyway so the use of the disks was never a problem.

Re: Singstar tracks from older versions ?

Honestly the disks are pretty cheap for the PS2 games if you shop around. You are effectively getting 10-15 songs for very little even if they aren't your favourites.
