Rather than debate over Wifi strength, you should read the very first version of the FAQ I've set up here for the time being

Re: New media server for the PS3

MediaServer use 750Mb memory with my MS Vista Ultimate, is it normal or something wrong with my system ?
Is There any way to improve direct divx/xvid movies streaming (like reencode settings choice) ? (I use mencoder only for now)
I have some stuttering divx/xvid files, high bitrate or simple one and its same when I reencode it, I'm on wifi with very good wrt54gs dd-wrt tweaked diamond router...Tversity run fine when I reencode ffdshow/ffmpeg...
I have core 2 duo laptop with 4Gb memory/ 7200HD wireless on wrt54gs / DD-WRT with extreme fast settings for G network but I get lost with 80028801 message from server : [Thread-16] 20:02:52.126 Receiving search request! Sending alive message...... and sometimes mediaplayer close itself alone...
Any idea are welcome... regards

Re: New media server for the PS3

This is simply superb!

I have a few requests...

I'm incredibly picky, and the extra menus whilst streaming really annoy me. Could you please make an option to turn them off?

For example, when I go to XMB > Music > Java PS3 Media Server...

I want just "Music" and then everything I've added in that folder, but I get "Music" and "#--VIDEO SETTINGS--#" When you go into "Music" you also get "#--TRANSCODED--#"

This would be faultless for me if I could remove them, as I want it to be as simple as possible for the family.

Please please please!

PS. I managed to remove the web feeds by deleting the file completely, so that's superb!

EDIT: Also, you should make an option to organise the shared folders... For example, changing their order. I'd like my audio folder to be at the top, but to do that I'd have to delete all my shared folders and create that first. An up and down option on the app would be superb.

Post 117 explains how to turn the folders off i wasn't sure how to do it though. That is just for the web folder though i think.

That's just for the web feeds which I've already turned off (as I said in my post).

good night
It´s true that your are working to add ISO suport to PMS?, I Read it on Tversity support forum, someone said it will be released this weekend probably.

It will be GREAT if is true, the only thing to make this server almost perfect is to make DVD´s ISO´s work.

Thanks a lot for your work this is by far the best multimedia server for PS3. Keep working and when little bugs are solved and with some interesting new features are added this will be the definitive MEDIA SERVER.

Are you thinking in make LIVE TV from SAT or AIR work with PMS?, it will be nice to have SAT streaming over LAN.

Thanks again

Re: New media server for the PS3

Another suggest for you... How about an option to change the name of the media server that appears on the XMB? At the moment it's "Java PS3 Media Server", but it'd be really nice to be able to rename this. WMP and TVersity don't allow this, so it could be a PMS exclusive.

If you listen to little ideas, this could turn into an amazing app.

Re: New media server for the PS3

Oh and guys, I'm unable to stream even SD. My network is so slow, but why? I use the same laptop and PS3 at my other house and it's very quick and flawless, but over here it's really slow. Is it the router that would cause this?

Our ISP (AOL) is very slow, but surely this wouldn't effect this at all? Is there anything else that effects it? The router was given to us by AOL.

Would it help at all by connecting the PS3 to the router via ethernet? It's right next to the router so it'd make sense...

True Live TV may be too much to ask for but "almost" Live TV is almost a reality as PMS stands.
i.e.

Start a DVBviewer(or DVBDream) recording SD or HD (record the Video and audio tracks - only 1 Audio track for the PS3 ) save as Transport Stream (*.TS file)

On PS3 using PMS Navigate to the folder with the ongoing "Live Recording"

After a Couple of seconds the live recording appears.

Play it - and it works

Drawbacks - ther time/filelength is only as long as the time it took to navigate to the folder and is not refreshed while the recording is in progress.

Perhaps there is a way for PMS to change the reported length/filesize on the PS3 so that the ongoing recording could continue playing after this time.

regards
potnoodles

Although I already tried that, without success.
First I tried cp1255 (that what the trace log says for windows code page) - gibberish.
Then, I tried utf8 (after converting the SRT file to utf8) - squares instead of letters.

I'm sure that there's something I'm missing.
Can you provide an explanation of the options in subtitles configuration line?

Yeah but i'm sure the majority of us prefer watching films on a 40inch screen rather than a 3 inch one!

Re: New media server for the PS3

Hi everyone, just a quick reply to tell you I think I've found the cause for the anormal WiFi stuttering some of you met. Also, those on CPL should benefit from the same correction, I hope.

Please remember the project is only 2 months old and I haven't really took the time to do some optimizations...

cheers

Wow, thumbs up for your response time and engagement with users !

Will it be possible to stream ISO files in a "near future"? Not neccesaraly the menus, but the movie and the subtitles inside?

Just a little bug report, seems that limit bandwidth option isn´t working good, I have a 100Mbit LAN, and set bandwidth to 60Mbps to avoid shuttering.

Yesterday I Watch a whole 1080p (20 Mbps to 45 Mbps) movie without a single problem and so smooth, but when I tried to see episode one of Planet Earth serie, it shutter in some scenes and bitrate raise above 60Mbps, it can raise up to 130Mbps. Try it, is about minute 22, when a huge number of birds appear on screen.

I´m really happy with the results, keep going, this is a fantastic server, BY FAR THE BEST.

Bye.

Re: New media server for the PS3

@shagrath78

Quick question -

I'm rebuilding my Media streaming PC and want to keep the build as light as possible. EXACTLY what codecs/muxers/apps are required for PMS (including 720p transcodes with subs)?

OS is Vista 32-Bit

I've seen you recommend CCCP in the past will CCCP include everything required?

thanks.

If you plan to use mencoder (default), you don't need any codec pack. Just unzip and launch PMS.

Extract from readme:
" Using the server "as is": No codecs pack to install, it will use Mencoder for the transcoding part."

EDIT: I forgot that you do need a java runtime in any case.
