issues with ps3 and mkv2vob

I've just purchased a ps3 slim 120Gb, and would like to use it mainly as a media centre.

I've downloaded a couple of mkv videos to try out, and have remuxed them using mkv2vob

These videos are now in mpg containers, but when I play them on my laptop with vlc, the video length is reported as 0.

I don't have a lot of hard drive space at the moment, so I would like to transfer them to the ps3 hdd.

However, when I try this, the ps3 says there is not enough space, even though there is actually plenty.

I'm wondering if the ps3 is not looking at the file size, but the running time of the video to judge how big it is, and something has gone screwy here.

Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a fix? Google fails me.

Can you actually stream the file, i.e. play it, rather than copy it ?

I wouldn't trust what your PC is telling you as mkv2vob makes files unplayable via the PC usually when it's done converting..

Yes, I can stream it perfectly, I just wanted to be able to put videos on the ps3 hard drive, cos I have very little space elsewhere.
