Remote Control PS3 upnp

Hi,

Does anyone know if the PS3 UPNP/DLNA client is remote controllable? i.e. Does it expose the upnp client API?

I'd like to use my Android phone to do basic things like Start/Stop PS3 playback, select music tracks etc. Then I wouldn't have to have the TV on when all I want to do is play music.

I've got no problem writing it myself, I just wondered if either Sony publish the API or if anyone had reverse engineered one.

Thanks,
Lee

Nothing that I've ever seen. Could always use a PSP and remote play though

With Remote play you see the same XMB view on your PSP as you would on your TV.

Some of the new Sony Phones have Remote Play as well now.

Good idea. I've not tried Remote Play, in fact haven't touched my PSP for a while.

So with Remote Play will the sound come out on the PS3? That's what I need it to do.

With Remote Play you have the option to send the sound out of the PS3 or the PSP

You can also switch the PS3 off and back on again with the PSP.

And you can also stream videos to the PSP that dynamically varies the quality of playback depending on your connection speed via the internet connection setting - which is handy if you experience any stuttering and also means you can stream from anywhere that has free Wifi.

I hate looking at the TV screen while paying music its too much of a distraction. So I bought my PSP solely for this purpose.

Thanks all for the discussion on Remote Play.

I dug out my PSP on which I had already installed a custom firmware which included Remote Play.

Have to say I'm very impressed with Remote Play, being able to remote control the PS3 music player is exactly what I wanted.

Glad you are enjoying it, it is a little hidden gem of a feature that I don't think is advertised enough by Sony.

I can't wait until the latest remote play compatible devices from Sony are released.

Just imagine using remote play on a Sony mobile phone to access all your media files from anywhere, with no need to have alot of storage space on your mobile devices.

What I am waiting for is the ability to turn on your PS3 using your PC!

I don't have any uses for this yet... But I want to be able to do it anyway!

This would be ok for power saving but what I'd really like for the PC and the PS3 is the ability for both to shut down and startup automatically at set times.

Would also be nice to set the CPU perfomance as dynamic depending on tasks for power saving - no need to have the performance set to high when streaming music
