You can pre-convert mkv's or stream on the fly to patch the DTS so it'll play via your amp without any issue.

If they are Vob rips of DVD's with a DTS audio track you have created yourself though then I'm afraid not.

Even if you choose to rip the DTS track within the ripping software?

Yes because the PS3 doesn't support streamed DTS at all. Offically DTS is only supported from Optical media.

The only reason it works with converted MKV's is because MKV2VOB adds a sneaky header patch onto the DTS audio that fools the PS3 into thinking it's receiving a PCM 2.0ch track.

If you look at the PS3 info screen while streaming a pre-converted file with a DTS stream you'll see the PS3 actually says it's playing back PCM2.0 even though your receiver states DTS

(Edit come to think of it PS3 Media Server also uses this same patch method on DTS MKV's when it converts on the fly. It 'might' be able to add this patch to Vob's as well but I've not tested this myself.
