If you are searching for a video you have to look under the video section on the PS3, if you're looking for photos you have to look under the pictures section and if your looking for music you have to look under the studio section. You may have been looking under the wrong sections.

make sure your files are stored no further than 7 folder levels deep. PS3 won't show any contnet further than 7 levels. If your files are in the 8th folder it won't show them.

Also make sure that the NTFS permissions on the shared folders on the PC aren't restricted. Adding the "Everyone" group with at least read and execute usually does the trick
