Thumbs down Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

Hi,

I am BRAND new to this I am sorry to say, I got my PS3 Slim today, and I am trying to get movies from my PC to my PS3.

I am unsure how to do this, but I have managed to get TVersity working, and I copied a file to my PS3, and can play it, with my PC off

SUCCESS!

OK, moving on, now I am trying to move something of higher quality, I have tried so hard to look in the TVersity options, turning OFF transcoding (whatever that it) selecting max res etc.

I am unable to get even CLOSE to the quality of the original content.

PLEASE any help would be awsome.

TVersity is driving me CRAZY, it is SO PAINFULLY awkward, I mean, you CANT CLICK on anything..

I wish to move a HD movie from my PC to PS3 Slim, (while keeping the quality) if anybody has ANY CLUE I will be so very greatful, before I HULK SMASH.

OH and I do NOT want to stream, my PC is sitting next to my TV ... I wish to be able to move a movie, from my PC, to my PS3, and turn off my PC, and watch the movie I have moved to my PS3, sombody sugested to copy using TVersity so I just dove in.

What exactly is it you are trying to copy down? It sounds like maybe it's not in a PS3 natively supported format and TVersity is transcoding it as it copies down.

If it's an MKV file you may get on better preconverting with MKV2VOB before copying it over to the PS3

Try PS3 Media server as per link in my sig. It's a lot better than TVersity...

PS3 Media Server did not work, at all. http://i36.tinypic.com/15dx7hw.jpg

TVersity worked instantly...

I have almost nothing left, this is actually bad for my health, I finaly copied a hd wmv to my PS3 using traversity, and it looks perfect, REALLY pleased...

BUT NO SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUND

I checked the source file and sound is perfect, but PS3 says 'No Audio' I can barely take this anymore.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

I'd strongly suggest perservering with PS3MS.... If TVersity works then i'm sure it won't take much to get PS3MS to work as well...

Read the Media Guide, i'm sure there's some tips in there, including some links off to helpful other guides. If not then find the log file and paste it in here and i'm sure Uridium will be able to help..

Probably has audio encoded with AAC. Very common in WMV-HD rips as that format is generally used for Xbox movies. PS3MS will transcode that to AC3.

If you want to get PS3MS working post the trace log up.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

OK I thought I would try something, I selected TVersity Media Server on the PS3 and selected information, then I took the IP address off there and put it into the force IP address section on PMS.

Done :D

Lookin good! will let u know how I get on with it, if i get on well with it, I will just uninstall TVersity

EDIT: quick update, I have not yet copied over a HD movie but I did a small one and also a picture for my PS3 background and I can say I think PMS is FANTASTIC and is really JUST what I ws looking for.

THANKS! I am sure I will run into some more teething problems but so far its lookin superb, really pleased after an afternoon of stressing.

Thanks again.

EDIT 2: I dunno if I am doing this right but, I have a HD WMV, I used PMS to BROWSE to the file, then selected COPY on my PS3 to copy it to the PS3 HDD for later use.

Is this the correct way to do this? I do not want any loss of original content quality, simply a copy, so I can play off my PS3 HDD without having to have my PC on.

(Sounds almost too good to be true)

EDIT3: I used PMS to move a HD WMV to my PS3 and no audio again.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

Yeah I seem to be having alot of trouble with the sound.

Just now I navigated to a newly converted mkv2vob and selected play, and the sync was all out.

I will try what I did before, copy it to the PS3 then restart my PS3.

The file plays FINE on my PC.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

Did you copy it over out of the TRANSCODE folder ?

It'll play fine on your PC as it has all the necessary codec support.

Hey, thanks for the reply, no I copied it out of the folder I set mkv2vob to save into, users/username/videos, and after restarting my PS3, it works perfect.

ODD.

That is the second newly copied movie I have had sound sync issues solved by simply turning off my PS3 and back on again.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

I was talking about your "EDIT 3" point, that can't have had anything to do with mkv2vob as it doesn't recognise wmv files...

That behaviour is quite odd though!

No I got that wmv specifically because I would not have to convert it or anything, I thought PS3 played wmv which is why I looked for a wmv to try, I assumed it would then need only moving from my PC to my PS3 without needing to do any converting using mkv2vob.

I dunno, I dunno what im doing tbh.

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

Well you can't convert wmv's using mkv2vob iirc.

What i'm saying is, when you use PS3MS there's a "normal" folder and a "#transcode#" folder or something, if you copy from the latter then it'll try and transcode any problem files for you...

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

As i mentioned before WMV-HD clips are usually encoded for Xbox use. Yes the PS3 will play back a WMV-HD but not with an AAC or WMA Pro audio track which most of these will contain.

Try opening the #Trancode folder within PS3 Media Server connection on your PS3, find the folder for the WMV movie and copy it from within there. This way PS3 Media server will transcode the file and remux the audio to Dolby digital 5.1 (AC3) which the PS3 will play.

If you don't copy from the transcode folder the file will just be copied "as is" with no changes made.

Personally I'd steer clear of WMV in future....

Re: Trouble With TVersity Quality, PS3 Slim, PC etc

I only got that one HD-WMV because I thought the PS3 would be happy with that, as it does not like mkv, and I thought the PS3 played wmv, so scratch that one attempt.

I am using mkv2vob to convert, then I am using PSM to access the converted file from my PS3, and copy it over to my PS3 HDD

Am I doing something wrong? because I am having hassle with sound.

You're using mkv2vob to convert what ? Not a wmv file...

You need to give us some info on what the file is your now converting with MKV2VOB. What audio does it have (DTS, AAC, AC3?)

We also need to know how your PS3 is connected. Is it connected to a Surround system/AV Receiver? If so by what connection method (Optical/HDMI?) or is it connected direct to TV?

We need to know the above info as dependant on the audio codec the file contains and how your PS3 is connected will dictate which options in MKV2VOB you need to be using.
