I have a PS3 SLIM 250GB and have successfully moved my entire MP3 collection over to the internal HDD (I don't want to stream for a number of reasons). All of the MP3s have the album artwork embedded within the ID3 tags themselves (i.e. I don't use folder.jpg) and the artwork is displaying correctly.

However, with a few albums added to the PS3 the artwork was displaying almost in 'real time' but with my complete collection now copied over (approximately 300 artists) the artwork is taking a long time to display when, for example, I sort the music by Artist.

I assume that this is to do with the HDD having to read so much album artwork but has anyone else exprienced this and is there anything that can be done to help?

Are they all dumped straight onto the hard drive or organised into folders?

I only stream but i have a library of hundreds of artists and over 10k tracks with no cover art response issues due to it all being organised into folders.

I have a USB hard drive which is the 'master' for all of my MP3 files.

The root of the hard drive has a MUSIC folder under which I have a folder for each artist and then within each artist folder I have folders for each of their albums.

i.e.
Top Level Folder: MUSIC
2nd Level Folder: THE KILLERS
3rd Level Folder: SAM'S TOWN
3rd Level Folder: HOT FUSS

I have copied the entire contents of the MUSIC folder over from the USB drive to the PS3 HDD using the 'copy multiple' option.

However, the folder structure organisation on the USB drive doesn't seem to matter as the PS3 appears to ignore the folder structure and build a 'database' of artist, album etc. based on the data in the MP3 ID3 tags - I assume this is by design and is not a major problem for me. There appears to be no way to decide 'where' the folders are stored on the PS3 HDD.

Am I missing something obvious here?

I don't store on the Int HDD myself but am pretty sure from reading a thread on here before that you can organise the music on the PS3 by highlighting a track hitting triangle and editing it.

Not sure if you can do it an album at a time thoguh I'm afriad.

Edit: actually think it was a track about organising video files but the same priniciples carry over. Have a search and you may find the thread...
