Try PS3 Media Server. does the same as Medialink and it's free. If you still can't see it from your MAC then you have either a firewall issue or something on your router not allowing the connection. Make sure you have enabled UPnP on your router and all firewall/security software on your MAC is definitely allowing both inbound and outbound connections (completely disable it to test if possible)

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

There is an option on the XMB to make allow the PS3 to connect to Media servers. Worth checking

Yes that's the one.

Basically if the PS3 isn't seeing the media server it will be a Firewall or routing problem.

Have a look in the PS3 Media Server trace log (post it here if you want) as it may give you some clues

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

Not sure about the "Unable to retriev MAC address for UID creation line" but that could be your issue.

I'd try specifiying the IP address of your MAC as well as the Network adpator in the general settings tab.

also try changing the port from the default 5001 (i had problems with this port) to something else as that port could already be in use by another app (I use port 5005)

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

Ah..

In the general settings tab there is a dropdown for specifiying the network adaptor the app uses. Is this greyed out or can you select and adaptor in there?

If it's not greyed out choose the adaptor for the IP address you've specified.

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

Not a MAC person I'm afraid but I assume you'll have a connection manager utility somewhere on the MAC?

In there you need to find your Network cards and find which have an entry that match the ones in the drop down.

The one you want is the one that corresponds to your main network card. At a guess I'd say this will be the one called EN1

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

Well it looks like PS3MS is configured OK so it does point to either a firewall or Network routing issue.

first thing to try is from a CMD/shell window try pinging the IP address of the PS3 from your MAC....

find out the IP address your PS3 has leased from your router; either from the PS3 Network settings on the XMB or from the router directly...

so from the shell window type....(where xx is the IP of your PS3)

ping 192.168.0.xx

Re: Help with Ps3, mac and media streaming

OK so we know your MAC can 'see' your PS3 on 192.168.0.7 and actually if you look at the last couple lines of your tracelog posted earlier we can see that the PS3 actually sent a request to PS3MS using that IP.

does look like a firewall issue somewhere. I'd suggest the MAC isn't allowing outbound traffic on the port PS3MS is using (port 5005 i think we set it to)

Here's where i struggle due to lack of MAC knowledge. you need to allow all PS3MS processes and all Java processes through your firewall (or better still completely turn it off temporarily so you can prove once and for all that the firewall is the issue)
