How do I stream Subtitles (from ripped DVDs)...?

I have now got streaming working from my Desktop PC (Vista/PS3MS) to my old style 60G PS3. It works well. MP4/VOBs seem to be fine.

I have few foreign films, how on earth to a rip them and/or stream to include subtitles?

Subtitles are a pain.....

firstly I rip with DVDShrink (see the Ps3 media guide for options used etc..)

There is an app I've used in the past named Subrip that will scan through the Vob and using a built in dictionary identify the characters and create an SRT. It's not perfect though and will prompt you quite a few times to input characters it's unsure of....

Some info on Subrip here

Other than that I've had some success by simply downloading an SRT from one of the many subtitles websites. some will be out time wise but I'd guess around 50% of the time I've found one that matches up well with my rip.

I also found an app named subsync that will re-sync subs to match your rip but i haven't got round to trying this out as yet...

Once you have a matching SRT just name it the same as the movie and drop it into the same folder on the PC. PS3 media Server will then transcode the movie adding the subtitle while it streams it.

I'd love to hear if anyone has found a better method though....
