Connecting PS3 to Samsung 650 & Pioneer LX03 Surround Sound

So... my current setup is as follows :

Samsung 6 Series LCD TV which connects via HDMI to my Pioneer LX-03. I then have an Optical cable linking my Sky+ Box to the Pioneer so that all sound runs through the Pioneer.

I am now looking to add a PS3 to the equation and would like some advice on how to get surround sound when using the PS3 (for games or blu-ray).

Is it as simple as adding an HDMI from the PS3 to the TV and tell the Pioneer to use HDMI2 (HDMI1 is setup as TV)? Or do i need to do more?

Thanks in advance

Gareth

I don't know much about the Pioneer I'm afraid. Can it do audio over HDMI?

I notice it has HDMI in and out so if it were me I'd link the PS3 to the Pioneer via HDMI as you've already got the Pioneer linked to the TV via that. If the Pioneer accepts audio over HDMI then you don't need to do anything else. If it doesn't then I'd run an optical cable from the PS3 to the Pioneer. In the PS3's menu's you can then decide how you want to output the sound and video, so you can have video via HDMI and audio via optical.

Edit: it looks like the Pioneer can do audio over HDMI so you'd just need to run a HDMI cablefrom the PS3 to the Pioneer and then set things up within the Pioneer's menu's.

So you'd have one HDMI from PS3 to Pioneer and then another from Pioneer to TV.

If you want to watch Bluray movies and get TrueHD and DTSHD-MA audio tracks you'll need to connect the PS3 direct to the amp via HDMI then HDMI out to the TV.

This will mean you need to have the AMP on all of the time to get audio from the PS3 though (unless the amp does HDMI passthrough when switched off).

If your only gaming on the PS3 though you can connect the PS3 direct to the TV with HDMI and optical out to the amp. This way you get the option to use the HDMI feed direct to the TV for late night/stereo audio use or use the amp via the optical connection for 5.1. This method will mean you won't get HD audio soundtracks on Bluray movies though as optical cannot handle the badwidth that HD audio tracks need.

I was reading this thread on my search for info about the LX03. I am ready to order, mainly because I read it does TrueHD if you connect a capable Bluray player.... but, I can't find the TrueHD support anywhere in the specs?
