PS3 Media Server and iTunes....

Now I've not tested this as none of my PC's are 'infected' with iTunes but i know a lot of people do use it and I've seen it asked about many times on here before.

well I noticed today that the latest beta of PS3 Media Server has added iTunes library support.....

It's a simple checkbox in the 'Navigation/Shares' tab.

Beta is available here for anyone who wants to test/use

PS3 Media Server • View topic - Download latest PS3MS Beta build

Note: PS3MS Beta's are usually pretty stable but you should remember this is only a beta.

Out of curiousity, what program do you use to manage your music?

Explorer.exe

Re: PS3 Media Server and iTunes....

I have just tried it and can confirm that Itunes is perfectly integrated in PSMS
you have access to the all features from the PC version in the XMB

Now if I could get my wireless network to get my playlists played wihout an awful 10s+ buffering when FF or between tracks in normal playbackI would be very very happy
But that's a topic I will mention on the main subforum

No just gives access to your iTunes library from the PS3 XMB. You'll still need to browse the XMB using a PS3 remote

Re: PS3 Media Server and iTunes....

ok, i dont yet own a PS3 but am thinking about getting one for xmas mainly as a blu ray player and AVHCD player for camcorder footage, I currenently use an old xbox runnning XBMC as my media server and my biggest bug bear is the lack of itunes support on it, so are you telling me that if i get a ps3 at xmas I can now use my itunes playlists etc on it?? if so this is a massive bonus for me as the PS3 will be hooked up the surround sound and it means party times will be so much easier

So i installed iTunes on a test machine today (didn't want it on my main machine ) and can confirm yes it does work; whole library is there as are playlists. Down side appears to be no grouping of content by artists etc.. meaning when i browsed my music i saw one folder with all 10,000 tracks in it

So if you desperately want iTunes playlists then yes it's a good option as it will give you access to them on the PS3. However if prefer to listen to a single artist or album and you have a properly organised and structured file system on your PC (my 10k track music library is grouped by Artist name\album name and then split down into 6 alphabetical folders A-D, E-G etc..) Then just browsing through a PS3 Media Server folder share is probably a better option.

Still..it is another nice addition to PS3MS from Shagrath and something that many software co's (any medialink users reading) will happily charge you for

I know I'm a little late to the game here, but does this also mean I'll be able to stream music purchased on iTunes to my PS3? If not, is there a workaround for that?

Thanks!

I don't think it will but not 100% sure, if you try it and it doesn't work then the best thing I do with anything I have purchased from iTunes is to burn your purchased music onto a CD and then re-rip to MP3, that way you will always have a backup and then you can do anything you want with the MP3 files.

Is a bit of a pain which is why I don't buy from iTunes but ended up having to when someone bought me an iTunes gift card.

BTW guys I downloaded the latest build of Media Monkey and its a big improvement from the previous version I had used (which was already good). I managed to import all my FLAC files and looked at the options for auto conversion to MP3 and syncing for different devices. You can specify the quality of the coversion and have different settings for each device, eg iPod, iPhone, Blackberry etc. You have to pay $20 for the full license to activate this feature but think I'll take the plunge since this will save me alot of time.

Only thing left to try out is auto syncing of playlists and favourites between all these devices and the original FLAC files.

So far so good, one step closer to deleting all my duplicate files that are saved as MP3 and using iTunes only for firmware updates.

If it's DRM free yes, if not, you'll have to upgrade your library to DRM free tracks. Worth doing anyway, as they're better quality AAC files.

At last, some form of integration between iTunes and the PS3.

Hi
Can someone please tell me where i'm going wrong.
I've ticked the Itunes box but it's not appearing as an option on the XMB.

I've added the Itunes folder (do i need to do this ?) and also put started up Itunes on the PC.

How do i get it visible ?

Thanks

It doesn't just appear on the XMB. It appears as an extra folder item within the streamed PS3 Media server Folders on the XMB

Apears as an extra folder called iTunes library.

What version of Windows are you running as I have seen some issues with saving the Media server config on Windows 7.

Are your iTunes files DRM protected? If so then it won't play them.

When I originally put my music onto itunes it was all from CD and not much has been bought from itunes but I can seen nothing on the ps3.

Perhaps this is something I simply cannot do and it may be easier to load all the CD's onto the PS3 ?
Do the files your trying to copy over actually play ok on the PS3 if you just choose play?

If you can't even see the files on the PS3 then it's probab ly down to one of two things....

- Either because you are browsing from the wrong section on the PS3 (confusingly it will allow you to browse music folders from the video or photo section of the PS3 XMB but not show you the actual files, so make sure you are in the music section on the PS3)

or

- you are browsing to folders that are too many levels deep. The PS3 only supports a folder depth of iirc 7 or 8 levels. If your music is stored in the last folder level it will just say 'no files'

Hmmm. Ticked the i-Tunes box. It takes for ever to identify the folders and become available for use. I also find that with the i-Tunes box selected, I get a lot more DNLA errors on almost everything. I am running Windows 7. I have been using PSMS for months now, and it has behaved perfectly, until I introduced i-Tunes tick box.

Anyone else having these problems. By the way, I have now disabled i-Tunes, as it made a fab application very flakey.

Wired 1Gb.

Interesting, I have often had the error message appear, though in the past with no interruption to streaming. With --Tunes ticked, the result would be loss of stream and PSMS.

I am able to stream 30GB blu ray films with no stutter. My problem with i-Tunes taking for ever to become ready will happen after I have ticked the box in PSMS, and then restarted the HTTP server button. It is as though it is as though the options window has frozen. Though it will eventually become available again.

I also have TVersity running at the same time, and did inadvertantly trigger Microsoft Media Centre (though I have now disabled it (MMC that is).

Burn the files to CD, delte from iTunes and rerip from the CD

The way it lists all the files isn't great. Only really any use for playlists imo.

Better to browse files using PS3MS own media library functionality or just browse using shared folder structure
