TVersity to PS3 streaming is stuttering

Hello, I'm using TVersity to stream media to my PS3, however I'm experiencing stuttering. It was stuttering every second until I used this setup found on this forum:

When to transcode:
Only When Needed, "Decrease the bitrate"

Optimization:
"Speed"

Connection Speed and Quality:
Wired 100 (I have wireless 108)

Compression:
Average

Video Resolution:
1920 x 1080.

Decoding Speed:
Uncheck "Decode the media as fast as possible"

This has resolved 90% of the problems, but I'm still finding some videos are stuttering. Is everyone having this problem? Here is my setup:

Intel 2GHz Acer with 802.11 Draft N
Windows 7
Netgear router 108mbps
Streaming from a WIRED network harddrive

Hope this is enough to go by.

Re: TVersity to PS3 streaming is stuttering

Could do with knowing what the files types are that are stuttering? SD/HD, AVI, MKV or converted MKV's

Main thing to do though is ditch TVersity.

install this www.PS3Mediaserver.blogspot.com as it's leagues ahead of TVersity now.

TVersity still does the job but it's decoders are far from efficient and it's options are rather limited.

Biggest problem TVersity has though is it's not device specific meaning it has lots of devices to support

PS3 Media Server is written specifically for the PS3.

Have a look at the PS3 Media guide as per my sig...

Re: TVersity to PS3 streaming is stuttering

Thanks Uridium, I'm installing PS3MediaServer. I'll report back to you if this does the trick.

Concentrating on two videos with different results:

Stutters every 30 seconds for 2seconds.
Video1.avi Video Clip
Length 01:56:30
576 x 238, 702MB
Data rate 730kbps
Total bitrate 842kbps
23fps
Audio bitrate 112kbps, 48kHz

Stutters constantly.
Video2: MPEG-2 TS Video
Length 00:03.59
1080i, 503MB
Data rate 17397 kbps
Total bitrate 17653 kbps
Audio bitrate 256kbps

Re: TVersity to PS3 streaming is stuttering

Could all be down to bandwidth. You say wireless 108 but remember the PS3 only has a 54Mb Wi-Fi NIC on board

108Mb is a great marketing tool. 2x 54Mb channels bound together but it never really works like that. A bandwidth monitor will show you get nothing near that.

At best you'll get half that speed through it.

Saying that Wi-Fi with a good signal strength should be enough for the SD AVI but without a very good signal you'll struggle with the HD clip.

PS3MS had some bandwidth limiting options in the Transcode settings tab. Try limiting the bandwidth in here to say 15mbps

also worth trying both the vids via a USB drive directly into the PS3 just to prove it's not an issue in general with the PS3 and the vids....

Re: TVersity to PS3 streaming is stuttering

Thanks for your help, I didn't know any of that about the bandwidth.

The PS3 is about 30cm away from the router, but on a glass stand I decided not to go with any more 'mess'. Doesn't seem quite so messy now .

So I'll have a short cable going to the router now.

Any idea if the PS3 has any support for NDAS networking external HDDs?

I tested PS3MS and received the same problem, so it sounds like it could be a bandwidth issue. PS3MS seems simpler, but right now I can't see a difference on the client.

Only if the External disks have a DLNA server app running on them. DLNA is the only streaming protocol the PS3 supports.

Try the bandwidth limiting option in PS3MS. That should solve the problem for you but obviously image quailty will suffer. You can't have it both ways unfortunately
