Surround Sound

Im looking for some surround sound and an amplifier, this will be for ps3 gaming so probably sony brand, the sony website is very confusing so i cant tell which ones come with dvd player or not. i dont want a dvd player just the speakers and the amp because ps3 plays movies well enough for my tastes. one of my friends has the DAV-DZ260 but this is an out of production model.
budget may be up to £200. I also like to play movies but that is not as big a factor as gaming.
At the moment i have Logitech-X540 which is decent sound, this cost around £50 so i know that spending 4x this should be a big improvment but another big factor is i dont want to play it too loud because the neighbours but i would like to hear things such as footsteps behind me etc
if you have ps3 and decent system in which you can hear these things clearly please post here with the brand and model number so i may look into this issue further

Re: Surround Sound

I am using a Yamaha Amp and Phillips speakers and it sounds great mate - I use an optical lead for the sound from PS3 to amp.

Can pm model numbers if you want later? I bought mine in bits as my main original system died. The amp is the most important thing as speakers can be changed when you want.

Re: Surround Sound

You'll find hundreds of variations of AMP/speaker combo's people are using here of AVF....for instance i'm using an Onkyo 606 with Tannoy F4 5.1.

For £200 you want to be looking at the "one box" surround solutions. they are much of a muchness but I'd avoid the Panasonic ones as most of them won't playback DTS audio from an external source. Just look for something with enough inputs that you need. Ideally with a couple of optical and HDMI inputs.

Another option if you prefer the idea of seperates would be to take a look in the trading section here on AVF. a lot of members here suffer from upgradeitis meaning there are some great used bargains to be had.
