Windows 7 Weird MP3 Problem

Hi,

Since upgradng to Windows 7 whenever I play music on the PS3 it stutters about every 40 seconds. Only happens with music, I can stream full movies flawlesly?

Im using WMP12 to stream the music and never had a problem with WMP11 and vista.

Anyone got any ideas as im nearly at the point of doing a complete reinstall to try and resolve the problem.

Also, the xbox can stream music without any problems.

Just also installed Tversity and it does the same thing. Starting to think its something to do with my wireless network. Confused....

Re: Windows 7 Weird MP3 Problem

Ditch both of them and use PS3 Media Server, see this for install guide and notes about what it can do, see if it still happens then...

what he said. even for no other reason than you 'should' as it's better. but fwiw it sounds like maybe the WLan NIC drivers are iffy.

A few other things to try.......

- send a 'constant' ping from the PC to the PS3 from an MS-DOS command prompt

start>cmd> return

type..... Ping "ip address of PS3" -T

leave it for a few mins and see if you get any slow repsonses or timeouts.

- Check the drivers for the WLan NIC. the ones W7 installs on build are often not the latest.

- Disable all firewalls and security software (temporarily) and see if this helps

- Finally try wired if you can..se if it still happens

Re: Windows 7 Weird MP3 Problem

Actually just found a solution on the net. Looks like its a bug/problem with the PS3 firmware 3.0 and above.

To fix it go to Settings/Music Settings/Output Frequency and change to 48 khz.

Dont understand why or how this has fixed it. All I know is now it working and worth trying if anyone gets a similar problem.

Also, thanks for the recommendations for PS3 Media Server.

Not doubting anyone but what makes it "better".

lol, still better than stuttery music though .

Is 48 the default? If so im guessing I must have accidently changed it at some point in the past.

Re: Windows 7 Weird MP3 Problem

Just installed PS3 Media Server and all I can say is WOW. The speed at which you can access the folders is amazing compared to WMP.

Enable the media library in the Navigation/share settings tab and it gets faster after the first browse of a folder as it will cache everything to a local DB on the PC.

In the navigation/share tab you can also customise what shares appear on the XMB. You can basically make it browseable exactly as per the folder structure on your PC.

Next try dropping a dvd cover thumbnail named the same as a movie file into the same folder as the movie file on your PC. The cover art will then appear on the XMB.

see...we told you it was good
