HD MP4 MOVIE NOW PLAYING ON PS3 with 5.1 DOLBY DIGITAL (THIS IS HOW)

its been a while now and ive had many of the mp4 HD movies but i could only get 2.0 audio from them.
Even though they are decoded with AAC (LC) 6 channel sound, the problem is that the ps3 wont play this type of codec sound so you are stuck with 2channel audio when playing back on you unit.

ive finally found a way that gets the movie on your ps3 hard drive and gets the audio back to dolby digital instead of the AAC that doesnt work. The only Difference is that it makes the file a little bit bigger
(ive done one and the film was 1.5gb and ended up being 1.8gb so not that bad really)

First of all you need the program on your computer called ps3 media server, found here (Downloads - ps3mediaserver - Project Hosting on Google Code)

using this programs streams and copies your movies, music etc to you ps3 wirlessly

with your ps3 on, load up your ps3 media server and wait for it to find your ps3,
now go to your ps3 and go to the video icon on your xmb, you will see the icon of the ps3 media server, go into and Browse it and astonishingly you will actually see all Directories

I WILL JUST USE THE NAME OF THE MP4 AS "TEST" YOURS WILL BE THE NAME OF THE MOVIE YOU WANT

Browse all the way to the folder where you can see the file test.MP4'

Locate a folder here called #--TRANSCODE--#. above it and open it and then locate the FOLDER called test.MP4'

In that folder find a file which should have a name similar to below:

'test.MP4[MEncoder]'

copy it to PS3.
this can take 20mins or so depending on size of film

(REMEMBER TEST IS JUST AS AN EXAMPLE AND YOURS WILL READ THE NAME OF YOUR MOVIE)

Once copies it plays perfectly, and in the information under audio codec it will say Dolby Digital instead of AAC,

will now play 5.1 channel surround sound through a av unit using the optical connection

Do you have to copy it to the PS3 HDD ? Can't you just stream it from the transcode folder ?

Looks like we updated the Media Sticky just a little too late for you as all this is kinda covered in there.....Default solution for playing "problem" media files is to stream them via PS3MS...has been for a good while now
