PS3 wierd sound

I have been using my PS3 to stream copied Blu Ray discs for some time. It has proved very reliabl. I use PS3MediaPlayer. I have a wired gigabit connection to my PC (quad core 4GB RAM Windows 7). I use AnyDVD, RipBot and MKV2VOB to copy and convert. Evrything has gone well, and just recently I have moved to 1:1 encoding (25GB+ files). I frequently find I have a problem with opera discs.

Sometimes RipBot does not bring the sound across, even though it is selected. Recently however, everything seems OK, I play the VOB file on my PC and everything works as it should. But when I play it on the PS3 the sound is totally distorted. It sounds like a very high frequency, high pitched, Darlek type sound. It is in sync. I use HDMI from my PS3, but when I switch to multiple output in the sound option, the sound is fine.

I clearly don't want to leave it in that setting, because I lose 7.1 sound amongst other things (according to the display on the PS3). Any ideas?

Re: PS3 wierd sound

What happens if you let PS3MS do the transcoding, i.e. don't run it through mkv2vob...?

Re: PS3 wierd sound

Hmm odd, it sounds like you're describing "chipmunk" audio, i'd post on the mkv2vob forum and do a search on there as it's been mentioned a lot and they might be able to help...

It's an Onkyo 905 connected by HDMI.
