I've had my original PS3 since the day it came out in the UK and it has never once gone wrong.
But today when I started it up to play some BF3 this happened.

When it boots up I get the usual startup tune then it just freezes and sometimes it's just static, sometimes green smudges, sometimes white dots. Sometimes I can see the wave background.

Anyway tried to restore it to default and it froze up the same way asking me to plug my PS3 controller in.

Is my PS3 had it or is there hope yet?

It looks like the symptoms of a faulty graphics chip to me. Have you got another HDMI cable you can try? Perhaps try it on another TV too.

Also worth testing to see if it works with the composite lead it came with, or if you get the same problem.
