PS3 pad won't sync / assign itself!

Gday

This is driving me mad!

I've borrowed my mate's controller (as he's already got 2!) but for some reason the PS3 won't register it!

The 4 red lights just keep flashing! When I plug it in via the charger it flashes slower but still won't register as the 2nd controller.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Re: PS3 pad won't sync / assign itself!

All you should have to do is connect it with the standard USB charge cable and hit the PS button.

Try disconnecting/switching off the other controller first maybe?

Re: PS3 pad won't sync / assign itself!

Are your other controllers registering normally? If not, just switch the PS3 off at the mains for a second or 2 and it should sort it out. I've had the problem a couple of time where it wont register my controllers and that seems to cure it.

Re: PS3 pad won't sync / assign itself!

You need to reset the controller in order to pair it with a different ps3 i think. The little recessed button on the underside next to the screwhole - push it in with a pin / paper clip / ballpoint pen, then connect the controller to your ps3 with the charging cable, press the ps button, job done...

Re: PS3 pad won't sync / assign itself!

Borrowed a ps3 off of my m8 last night (as he is away on hols for 2 weeks) and trying to get it to work. Thet issue looks like the controller is dead flat as he said he hasn't even played it for about a month. I connected the control pad to the charge cable via the usb port on the front of the ps3 (it's the model with 2 usb ports, whereas my sisters boyfriends ps3 has 4 usb ports on the front, not sure what the difference is).

I don't even get the 4 red lights flashing once it's plugged in, never mind being able to sync it with the ps3 via that reset button on the back of the pad.

Any ideas?

Thanx.

Is the PS3 on when you do that?

I've tried it when it's in "Standby" (just the red led on the front) and when it's switched on with the green led on the front. :S

It definitely won't charge in standby but it should when it's on... have you tried just leaving it plugged in whilst its on for a while (say 30 mins?) I had a similar problem once and the LEDs it had started charging properly after leaving it for a while.

You can also charge them through a laptop or PC, maybe give that a go?

Controllers Not Being Recognised By PS3 ???

Morning Guys

Yesterday I noticed that my PS3 Slim wouldn't recognise my controllers:

i.e. The controllers wouldn't assign when the console was turned on.

I first noticed this with my Blu Ray remote, & instantly thought it may be a battery issue - negative! Replacing the batteries didn't help, & I half thought that maybe the remote was broken ... but it wasn't.

Both of my controllers also wouldn't connect, even when I tried hard wiring them via USB - As soon as I took the USB cable out of the controller it unassigned itself.

A quick reboot of the console & everything was back to normal

This has since happened nearly every time I turn on the console. Maybe it's coincidence, but it's only started since I installed the recent 3.10 update.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Yes, I have had this before and since the update - it's random and I have no idea why it happens.

Had similar issue where it wouldn't link at all if cable was in even though it charged and it remain linked to other PS3 fine etc. Just rebooted the controller by sticking end of a small screw in the reset hole in the back near the usb port bit and it was all sorted. Lights will go out on controller, plug it in and press PS button. Job done

Hope that works for you too....

That's the same as me dude.

Does the Sony Blu Ray remote have a reset button on the rear?

I experienced the exact same issue last night on my PS3 Slim. Maybe coincidence as you suggest, but this never happened prior to the 3.10 update.

I just got my slim to replace my broken 40GB.. I managed to sync my Dual Shock and Six Axis first time and they worked.

But now I can switch on my PS3 using either controller, but they never get assigned a number... If I plug in the cable, they work.. But when I remove it, it trys to sync and it doesn't.

I have tried rebooting and resetting the controller and nothing is working.. Any other ideas?

Is this an issue with the Slim, or could this just be a 3.10 glitch (which i had to upgrade to at the same time as getting the Slim)?

I managed to fix mine in the end by switching off for a while and resetting the controllers again.. So i dont' know now whether this is a Slim issue or 3.10 problems.. But I guess I can be relieved that I am not alone.

It's good to know that I'm not alone with regards to this issue - I'm now glad that I created this thread.

Has anyone experienced this issue with their Phat PS3 since the 3.10 update, or is it looking like an issue relating to only the slim models?

It happened to me today, turned PS3 on with controller, then 4 red lights started flashing on the controller. Plugged it in vis usb and I could use it, but as soon as I unplugged it ,back to flashing lights.
Putting a pin in the reset button didn't help.

Resetting the PS3 once or twice got it working in the end but it seemed to take a while! Glad it's not just me, as I was starting to wonder if the bluetooth had somehow broken, hopefully now an update will fix it.

250 GB slim by the way.
