The game looks good but I agree, the graphics are not mind-blowing. Eurogamer said the PS3 version is not even in 720p as Capcom couldn't bother spending much time on the port

Re: Street Fighter IV - Play And Help Thread
Help!!
How do you charge up before doing certain combos??
I've done a bit of reading and it seems there are 3 ways to charge up but is there anyway of knowing you are actually charging up?? For example does your character glow as they are charging up??
Below is the textI have found on how to supposingly charge your character up:
Easy:
You can hold down and back so that you stay stationary on the ground. This is useful for charging back-forward and down-up attacks, but it's terribly obvious what your doing, and the opponent will surely counter it. You can also just wait for an opponent to attack you and simply charge as you block, but this is dangerous.
Intermediate:
Jump forward whilst holding back. It's a good way to gain ground and land a nice charge when you touch earth, but jumping is terribly dangerous if you're not ready with an attack or a mix-up.
High-level:
Charge whilst comboing. This is the best way to do it and not too terribly difficult either; it just requires that your timing is precise. It allows for you to do the most damage and can leave you totally stationary, or can advance you if you use a move that pulls you forward like Guile's Bazooka Knee. In this same vein, you can also just mash the jab to remain stationary while at a distance while charging and then release an attack to throw off your opponent, but this only works once or twice if you're lucky in a match.
Has anyone managed to do this yet?

Re: Street Fighter IV - Play And Help Thread
Finally!! Beat Seph on medium setting for the first time with Ken, but it didn't unlock another character.
I probably continued about 6-8 times.
What do you have to do to unlock characters then?

Akuma - After unlocking Sakura, Dan, Cammy, Fei Long, Gen and Rose, Fight him on arcade mode, to do that, Get at least 1 perfect and use no continues.
Cammy - End the arcade mode with Crimson Viper
Dan - End the arcade mode with Sakura
Fei Long - End the arcade mode with Abel
Gen - End the arcade mode with Chun-Li
Gouken - After unlocking Akuma, Sakura, Dan, Cammy, Fei Long, Gen and Rose, complete the game with Akuma. Then get at least 2 perfects and 3 Ultra Finishes and don't use any continues.
Rose - End the arcade mode with M.Bison
Sakura - End the arcade mode with Ryu
Seth End the game with all the other characters
I think there are different successful combinations to unlock Akuma and Gouken.
But if you don't do the arcade run on 'easiest' difficulty and 1 round match then the scenarios for Akuma and Gouken changes.

You have to complete the game with certain characters to unlock the others, and not all characters will unlock new characters.
| Cammy | End the arcade mode with Crimson Viper | | Dan | End the arcade mode with Sakura | | Fei Long | End the arcade mode with Abel | | Gen | End the arcade mode with Chun-Li | | Rose | End the arcade mode with M.Bison | | Sakura | End the arcade mode with Ryu |
This can be done on any difficulty setting.

Re: Street Fighter IV - Play And Help Thread
Who who let the work experince kid do Seth's moves, he spams the same move worse than I used to when I was a kid playing SF2
To get Akuma:
You must have Sakura, Dan, Gen, Cammy, Rose, and Fei-Long unlocked.
Beat Arcade Mode on any difficulty and with any settings, using any character.
Must have at least 2 Pefect Rounds before defeating Seth.
Cannot lose any matches and use a continue.
To get Gouken:
You must have Akuma unlocked.
You must have beaten Arcade Mode with Akuma.
Beat Arcade Mode on any difficulty and with any settings, using Ryu.
Must have at least 2 Pefect Rounds before defeating Seth.
Must have performed at least 3 Ultra Combo Finishes before defeating Seth.
Cannot lose any matches and use a continue.
To get Seth:
You must have Gouken unlocked.
Beat Arcade Mode on any difficulty and with any settings, with all other characters.

Think you have to win 10 online battles for the Dan t-shirt and if you play 100 online battles you achieve the Akuma t-shirt!!

Charging only applies to certain characters, but as you say, there are various ways to "charge" for a special move. There is no charge meter but the charge time is generally considered to be around 2 seconds. After a while you get a feel for how long it takes. You can also hold a charge for as long as you want before executing a move.
One of my favourite characters is Guile. His two most common specials are Sonic Boom and Flash Kick. Sonic Boom is hold back to charge. Flash kick is hold down to charge.
However, if you hold diagonally down and back you are charging BOTH moves, so depending on your opponents next move you can release either of these specials. I think this applies to any character with a charging special: Blanka, Honda, Bison, Guile, etc.
If I'm playing Guile I will ALWAYS prepare before the fight starts by holding diagonally down and back. The second the round starts I take a split second to see what my opponent is doing. If they jump towards me(like a lot of attacking players do) then I have a Flash Kick ready for them. If they back off or don't move I can release a Sonic Boom to apply pressure. Either way I'm covered. This tactic can be applied throughout the fight. Pressure to make them move, a trap to catch them afterwards.
Street Fighter is all about controlling space. By controlling space you're forcing your opponent to make a decision on what to do next. It's just like a game of chess. The trick is to have a trap waiting for every conceivable outcome.

Anyone got any advice on this for a SFIV newbie?

L1 or L2 are the equivallent of pressing all three punch or kick buttons together.
Once I sussed this out even I managed a couple of ultras

Your example of Guile is the perfect example, as I used to back in SF2 days when trying to do the 'sonic boom' move I would hold back count to 3 and then press forward and punch button.
I've unlocked Akuma so just 2 more characters to unlock. I've tried online but got battered in the six games I played.
So far I am really enjoying playing as Dan which really surprised me.
Akuma's eyes keep reminding me as the Helghast (KZ2)
