i would like to start a compatibility list for UK games on a US console. Hopefully we can all add to this list and make it pretty comprehensive. This is only for sd resolutions of 480i/p. the idea is to save me (and other people of course) time/money.

Promos are identical to retail copies. The only reason I have put "promo" is to let everyone know the full story. For the same reason i put (AU) from my copy of Burnout Paradise, because I can only verify what I try, and other people can only verify what they try. Chances are extremely high that if an AU copy works, an EU copy will, and the same thing goes for promo's. They just aren't guaranteed to be the same.

Resistance Expliot

1. make sure you dont have any resistance patches installed
2. load up resistance
3. get into a level and pause
4. swap the resistance disc with the non-working game
5. wait a bit
6. press the "quit to main menu" or whatever the quit one says
7. cross fingers
8. game should load

6/6/2008 - R:FOM exploit compatibility updated. if it says it has been tested (either by me or a kind member in this thread) it will say if it works or not. if there is no comment, then it has not been tested.

5/7/2008 - R:FOM exploit does work with firmware 2.40

yes if you have a hdtv. no if you don't. assuming that the uk pal version is the same as the australian pal version.

Sorry for being unclear.

FIFA08 and Harry Potter 5 (PAL Versions) WILL WORK on a US PS3 (NTSC) in SD mode at 480i/p.

Heavenly Sword will come up with an error message, when you try to play the PAL version on an NTSC system in 480i/p (however, to my understanding, it WILL WORK as well on an HD system). It's just the 576i/p vs. 480i/p that is the issue, once you play something at 720p, it seems not to matter, where the game originated, as the resolution is the same.

In other words, I have no problems playing PAL FIFA08 on my US PS3 in SDl, please change the list accordingly lmaolmao. Will let you know about NHL 08 in a coupla minutes .

This thread is about NTSC PS3 systems (eg. Japan, US) and PAL software (eg. Europe, Australia) and if they work with a particular game release in standard definition (SD). And yes, even if your UK TV has NTSC capabilities, it will affect you, it is a disc / console issue.

Any games will work in an HD modes (as the PAL and NTSC resolutions match, only the frame rate differs). However, the SD modes of games seem to be encoded on disc in either PAL (576i/p), NTSC (480i/p) or as a multi-format disc, essentially supporting both.

While any game bought anywhere in the world will work on any console in HD, the question we are trying to answer here is: "Will a particular PAL release of a game work on an NTSC PS3 in SD mode?"

Note that this does NOT necessarily have to match the question "Will a game I purchased in the US run on my European / Australian PS3".

As soon as you move up to an HDTV, you will not have to bother about this thread anymore.

I further would assume that if you have an NTSC PS3, you will also need a display that has NTSC playback capabilities... I always make sure mine are (large DVD and LD collection), but maybe there are other threads going into more detail on this.

I'm new on here but I have had the error 80028F10 message come up when iIhave been trying to play The Simpsons. I have a NTSC ps3 from Hong Kong and it's hooked up to a 4 year old Panasonic Viere which is not HD. However, I had the chance to hook it up to a Sony HD projector and got 1080p no problem. The Simpsons worked. So I hope not all games are going to be like the Simpsons one and/or that Sony get it together and realise that not every one has a HDTV.

Why are you blaming Sony ? You have an import console which you're trying to sue with a PAL TV and PAL games. Sony have no obligation to make sure such a combination works. If you had bought a UK PS3 then you wouldn't have this issue. The risk of importing anything is that it may not be fully compatiblde with local products.

It is not only imported PS3s that are suffering uk ones are too and if you can be bothered to look and see what owners are saying you will fined that Sony are to blame as all that is required to fix this problem is a software patch. I do have a NTSC TV by the way and I have tried a US copy of the Simpson’s. All you get from Sony when you phone them
