PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Hiya
Can any recommend any good games that either have a God mode or a Very Easy setting.

I used to love playing Duke Nukem/Doom etc as you could just enter God mode and then get to see beyond the first stage.

The new games like Uncharted I would love to play and explore but with poor hand control I cant do the fast movement and perfect timing needed. After searching on forums it seems that God Mode (when you cant be killed and can just skip levels to allow you to see what the levels ahead offer) is not offered any more.

Its so frustrating to buy a game, play it for 1 or 2 levels until you hit a part that needs more dexterity than I can manage and know that you cant skip ahead to another part and hence never get to explore the lush graphics the PS3 can offer.

I know some games offer God Modes once you completed them, but thats no help if your stuck on stage 2 !! :-)

Is it possible to download completed games from other people that have God Modes unlocked ?

So, any recommendations for me ? I got Burnount Paradise which is great for just driving around and jumps etc, Got Orange Box, but cant get past first stage of half life and last exactly 4 seconds on Team Fortress :-), but enjoy playing with Portal.

Would love to have an Uncharted/adventure/discovery type game, but only if it had a way of skipping ahead when I got totally stuck on a level.

Thanks in Advance

Arlie

PS, I might sound like an old fogey, but am only in my 30's just have the body of a 90 year old ;-) ;-)

I also look out for easy games as I just haven't got the will power and stamina for full on games.

Games I've managed in the past have easy games with linear cinematic CGI plots.

Example Heavenly Sword and currently Unchartered and Batman - both have Easy modes. Not a lot in 3 years I know.
Unfortunately all of these require some dexterity easy though they are.

I believe that the PS3 version of Alone in the Dark: Inferno allows you to skip levels if you get stuck. I haven't actually played it so can't vouch for it being any good but have a look here: Alone in the Dark Hands On | PS3 | Eurogamer

Also, how about a strategy game such as Valkeria Chronicles? It has a great story, fantastic visuals and as it's a turn based game is easy on the use of the controller. It's far from an easy game though, one wrong movement can cost you the round later on.

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

The Lego franchise games are good IMO, as tey are easy and don't require too much back and forth on the controller..
Sorry to hear about your condition BTW, gamers worse nightmare...
Have you tried an after market controller? Something which is bigger?
You would hate to see my collection of games, mostly dexterous..
Have you tried some RPGs, are not as taxing on the hands?
FPS are a killer on the hands/controller, as you have stated this is your enemy..
MGS could be a good one, but as for unlocks, the only thing I could suggest is, downloading some one else profile game saves, which you can google, means you have unlocked the game itself and unfortunately in some ways can kill thegame already..
God mode rarely exists these days, not like the good ole days when you could command prompt (on a pc) and wallah..

Cars games could be an alternative as they don't require as much input as FPS, if you like that sort of gaming..
Also consider GTA4, it allows you to get around in your own time, and as the Frame rate is not as high as other games out there, it could help you with your gaming...

Hope this helps..

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Thanks all for the replies so far.

Bond, have you played Uncharted / Batman on the easy modes ? I tried the uncharted Demo but kept getting shot about 20 mins in and could never react quick enough, but wonder if the easy mode is easy as in less baddies or easy as in slower response times needed ?

Robothamster, I not heard of either of those, will do some research on them, thanks for the ideas.

24 P, I must admit the Lego ones always looked fun, I was looking at the Indiana Jones one in Game today as a Pre-Owned, but then the assistant starting raving about it and made it sound like a total button basher like Mario which is just no good for me. Have you got the Lego ones ? does it have an easy mode, or a forgiving game play ?

On the using someone elses saved game, how would that work, is it just a case of download, put on usb stick and copy to PS3 ? I love GTA4, but have never been able to unlock all the things so would love to have a completed game so I could explore more.

Thanks for the commiserations, Artheritis is not good for gaming, but Iam not a Hard Core Gamer, I just like to have some fun for a few hours. I know its seen as cheating but I think if I have spent £30-£40 on a game I should have the choice of skipping levels I cant do so I can see what the rest of the game looks like. ;-) Mind you I still not see the rest of the Islands in GTA 3 yet ;-) The controller size is ok, its more the speed/reaction I just not got, so when a game has you doing a combination of movements with perfect timing I will always get stuck.

Has anyone played the new Wolfestien yet ? would love to know if that has an easy option or an Invincible mode ? Used to be great fun on the old ones just roaming around blasting and never getting hurt ;-)

Anyone else got any ideas ? or maybe some games that have good cheat codes for armor/ammo/weapons that can help me out.

Cheers

Arlie ;-)

I have all 3, yes they are button mashers, but not as bad as 1 would think.
My fav is Starwars trillogy, fun fun fun, and its replay value is brilliant.
Very much like mario, if this is a good or bad thing..

Yeah pretty much so, but you do need to read the specific instructions they give you, and it only works for regional release games..
ie US saves only work with US games, JAP saves only work with JAP games etc etc..

Finished it, and its crap, what a disappointment.
Return to Castle Wolfenstien, IMO was better.
Highly overrated, and IMO will be too difficult for you..

Hope this helps..

Tomb Raider Underworld has a load of cheats and AFAIK one of them is an infinite health cheat. Also you should take a look at Fallout with the game difficulty slider set to its easiest. There would be very little reaction/co-ordination gameplay involved but the quests and storylines are so deep it would literally keep you busy for months.

Good on ya for keeping at your hobby. I totally take gaming for granted so this thread has put things in perspective for me.

Too true, I have had my hands clamp up before an it was not a pretty site, I am sure it was with the PS3, not Xbox 360..
I would seriously suggest to the OP at an aftermarket PS3 controller..

I guess the big suggestions have already been said: aftermarket controllers, turnbased games, super easy/no fail modes. But also how about:

- Have you tried a steering wheel with a driving game? With automatic gear-changing, a wheel may be much easier on your hands.
- Singstar / Rock Band(1/2) singing, these would have no hands needed at all, just singing along. And with Rock Band you could play online with others as part of a band.
- 3rd party Sixaxis controllers with autofire; these may alleviate button mashing if pressing and holding a button is easier than tapping?
- the Frag-Ex type controllers fake a mouse/keyboard for shooters, would this help?
- get some Giotech Triggers, they clip onto your standard PS3 controller and help alot with L2 and R2 buttons.

As for specific games, it's not something i've thought about, but looking at my collection these might be easier for you:
- Valkyria Chronicles (turn based mostly, also an excellent underrated game)
- Bladestorm (gentle button stuff, very easy overall)
- Everybodys Golf World Tour (turn based golfing)
- Folklore (easy RPGish, button mashyish type game)
- Eye of Judgement (turn based, uses cards not a controller)
- Fallout 3 (RPG/shooter which you could play as a turn-based shooter with the VATs mode)
- Tom Clancey's End War (not played it myself, but meant to be able to play it with voice commands)

Lastly have you thought about a Wii? Some of those games are holding the controller and the odd click, personally i think it might be worse, but just a thought?

Good luck, and if you do find some good games it might be nice to update this so others like you know whats good from someone with the same condition

I am just in the early stages of both..on easy modes.

Unchartered - The positioning of jumps to, fro, shimmying etc.. are very forgiving. Vague direction is good enough. So it allows the game to flow unlike the days of Tomb Raider etc. The puzzles are quite straightforward. And it's very linear. The only drawback I see are the plenty of fights with the pirates. But on easy I assume less pirates. You can also find safe spots and pick them off in your own time. When shot you can just wait and you recover. Even if you die there are plenty of regular checkpoints so short repeat play. And I haven't noticed any end to the number of lives yet. And there is hint button with puzzles!

Batman - I've just played briefly. Not as simple. But on easy mode is less stressful relative to how hardcore games can be. Seems more or less linear with great CGI acting/voiceover. Puzzles in the first 1hr seems OK. Some button bashing with fights but only 2 buttons. On easy mode they quite easy so far

Uncharted on easy mode still has the same number of enemies and they behave the same as they do on normal/hard/crushing but they do less damage to you (they are all exceptionally accurate with their guns and grenades though!) and I think you do more damage to them if you hit them. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for an easy game.

i don't see it mentioned, but Civilization Revolution is a good game, my missus and I were addicted to it for a while.

It's turn based so you can take as long as you want.

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

1 problem with Uncharted is, it is extremely short..
As good as the game is, it is short.
As long as you are aware of this, its all good.
Uncharted 2 is out soon 2 from memory..

Redalert is fantastic for fun, and Endwar, it is actually voice recognition, thats if yo like RTS..

I've only played it for about 2 hrs or so - and only on easy. So your probably more qualified to answer to describe. But I have found it to be relatively easy so far.

Metal Gear Solid 4 has an easy mode. Plus there is not much gameplay anyway

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Wipeout may be worth looking at, it now has the pilot assist, which will generally keep you on the straight and narrow without having to do too much.

I also like Savage Moon on the PSN, that is a tower defense game, it requires more planning than dexterity, it can be a little fiddly though so might not be appropriate.

Il-2 Sturmovik might be worth a look too, there is a demo on PSN. It can be set to Arcade and it is very forgiving. However, with a joystick and in realistic mode, it is more about controlled movements than fast reflexes.

Previously mentioned games :

Valkyrie Chronicles, excellent game and you can take your time.

Singstar, just need to sing I love it.

Rock Band/Singstar - I don't think I could recommend this, this gives me mega RSI after a couple of plays with the guitar. Maybe with drums it would be better, but easy mode is too boring and the advanced modes I would imagine a definate no go!

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

WOW, what a huge response. Thanks to all those who replied.

When I had asked this question in the past I had been pretty much told to stick to car games / GTA where I can just drive about and have fun but that the adventure/expore type games were just all very fast and difficult now to cater for the hard core fans.

Fmrl thanks for the detail on Uncharted, I really fancy it after looking at screen shots/reviews etc but I think your right, it would just frustrate me when I got stuck early on.

I might rent it one time, or see if I can find a friend near Manchester with it to have a go on it before finally giving up on it ;-)

Dan, just been reading up Civilization Revolution and it looks like it could be good fun, will have to add it my Amazon list ;-)

Stinja- you going to keep me busy on IGN & Wikipedia for hours with your list of suggestions ;-) ;-) (thats a good thing by the way).

You mentioned Fallout 3 (as did someone else) and after a bit of research last night ordered it from Amazon for £17. I like that fact that I can just wander around and investigate and if I dont want to fight I can go and explore. Plus the idea of this VATS thing were you pause and choose the target, seems ideal for me as I can take my time a bit more.

Bond, thanks for your details on Batman/Uncharted, As Batman still on the expensive side, will wait and see what Iam like in a year when it will be cheap ;-)

Thanks again to everyone who replied, you given me loads to try and am looking forward to some good gaming over the next few months. Thanks for your comiserations on the Arthritis, but dont feel too bad for me, the reason I started the thread is I just moved house and know finally have a "Entertainment" Room to call my own with a nice Optoma HD20 1080 Projector. So really you cant complain with a 3M diagonal screen, PS3 and Kef Surround Sound to keep you happy. ;-) ;-)

Will post back once I got Fallout 3 and tell you how I found it.

Cheers

Arlie

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Sinzer, My Girlfriend sings in the Halle Choir and tells me off when I sing out of Key when doing Happy Birthday !!! I think she would leave the house if she heard me on a Karaoke game ;-)
Just had a quick look at the ones you list and the Flying one looks like it could be fun, Do you have that game ? can you just fly about and avoid enemies or is it all just constant dog fights ?

24P, you mentioned different controllers. This is not something I had considered, as its not the size of the controller, just that my fingers dont move as fast and as accurate as normal, so I imagine that a different controller would just be buttons in different positions but not help with my speed of movement. But am happy to be informed differently if you can recommend any good controllers to check out.

I do actually have a Wii, enjoy the Wii Fit and mess around on the games you get with the original console but havent bought or looked into any other Wii games. To be honest I am only a casual gamer, and just play when I fancy it, but with getting the Projector I really fancied giving the PS3 some more use.

Cheers

Andy ;-)

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Out of interest what medications/supplements have you tried to treat your arthritis? Certain supplements can rebuild the cartlidge etc although for severe condition bulk dosing is probably necessary, certainly helped my creeky knees and wrists in the weights room. And I'm aware there are some impressive new drugs around these days available on prescription, I think for more severe cases though

Elder Scrolls Oblivion is a wonderful RPG doesnt have too much button bashing, although occasionally you have to kill a bad guy. RPGs as a whole sound like a good genre, so maybe Final Fantasy 7 (downloadable PS1 classic) and Final Fantasy 13 when that comes out would be good additions

I'd add Heavy Rain to your must buy list, have read up on the preview section, it looks amazing and shouldnt have much in the way of bashing.

Adding a PC to your set up and having a go on point and click and God Games should be fun. Civilisation is better on the PC than the PS3

Look out for the new Bioware game "Dragon Age" i think it's called, released next month(?). Looks like it can be played semi-turn based like the Knights of the Old Republic games.

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Arlie71, have you thought of remapping the buttons to the front 4 buttons?
I know this will knock out some crucial buttons, but of the game allows, try putting the most important ones there and also on the R3, L3 ones.
I am currently looking for alternative controllers..

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Hi Arlie

I decided to have a look on the net to see if any controllers exist that might help you and I stumbled across the following company who specialize in customizing controllers. They have a number of different types that you can buy online but they can modify one specific for your needs.

Assistive Technology - Game Box Consoles

This controller looks the business:

This is certainly a market that is going to increase.

Hope you manage to find a solution and keep on gaming mate!

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Thanks all for more ideas.

For now I have got Fallout 3 & Laura Croft, which Iam playing on very easy mode, and am enjoying just wandering around the huge enviroment.

I got little big planet, played it for about an hour but am stuck on the tutorial games, the one with the Jet Pack thing and I dont know what to do to get through it !! (they obviously think its so simple they dont need to give hints, but I just prove that I am even more simple then they planned ;-) ;-)

I also got Need for Speed Undercover, which I am loving, I not doing the races, just getting into cop chases which are great fun.

Lastly I got Star Wars but not played it yet.

Got them all 2nd Hand from Game/Blockbuster so not spent to much ;-)

Thanks again for all the advice.

Cheers

Andy

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

With Il-2 and the flight stick it is pretty easy going, it is more about steady movement, these are WW2 fighters

You pull off quick movements and generally you stall and crash. There is a demo on the store, well worth checking it out.

There are no quick button combos you have to press.

I can understand how you feel, I get RSI a lot now and wonder if I end up with the same problem one day.

http://www.techfresh.net/nyko-ps3-zero-controller/

Just received this 2 day in the mail...
Impressed by build quality, sits in hand similar to Xbox 360 controller...
Analog sit up too high IMO, and buttons are slighlty further away than the PS3 controller.
IMO this would not be a suitable controller for you, it is a lot more awkward than the PS3 for the buttons..

Hope this helps..

As 24 P says, it's pretty easy once you find the right file. I did this with GTA4 as I'm rubbish at games and just wanted to open the game up.

I don't know if this will work, but I've zipped up the game save I downloaded and added it here.It was a 100% game complete one with all the islands open and lots of fancy cars available at the various safehouses.

If you unzip it and put the four files in a GAMESAVE folder inside a PS3 folder on the USB stick (I think that's right) you should be able to load the data on the PS3 (there was a game save loading thingy at the top of the Games bit of the PS3's menu if I remember rightly).

Please make sure you virus check this zip before you do anything with it though, I'm pretty sure the files will be fine but I'm doing it on my mac which doesn't have AV.

If I remember correctly it's the spot where there are big yellow barrels on the ground. Whilst using the jet pack you need to pick up the barrels one at a time and put them in the open box suspended at the top in order to open the draw bridge. I think it takes 3-4 barrels to achieve this.

Re: PS3 Game suggestions for Arthritic Hands !!! God Mode etc

Hiya
Thanks 24p for your advice, to be honest the controller isnt really the problem, its more the speed of things that I have problems with.

Fozzybear, You Sir, are an absolute STAR !! I been hopeing to finally get a save for GTA4 so I can explore the whole of the game. :-) ;-)
I cant wait to give it a try.
Am I right in saying that I leave the Game Save on the USB key or do I need to copy it onto the PS3 HD first ?

Moogle, Ahhh !!! So simple when you say it, I kept on just looking for a door or something to go through, will try moving the barrels now. Cheers for that, I promise not to come back and ask you about every level I get stuck on ;-)

I must say, I been reading the forum for years, and compared to other forums I read (Tech & Motors) everyone here is so friendly and helpful and happy to help the real gear heads with technical audio problems down to guys like me who just starting out.

Thanks to all again

Andy
