New PS3 owner - Online support for games I've bought?

Hi, I'll be taking delivery of my first PS3 tomorrow. I've purchased the following games:

Little Big Planet
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Motorstorm
Resistance: Fall of Man
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

From what I've read, although all relatively old games now, they really impressed. Plus, they are PS3 exclusives which was the main reason I got the PS3 ( a change from the 360).

Because they are older games, can someone tell me whether there are people still playing these games online..........or will I a be dodging tumbleweed when I get online?

Regardless, can't wait to take delivery and start playing

For both GT5:P & LBP the online community is still busy. I can not comment on MS or resistance but tbh I doubt it. Uncharted is single player only.

Little Big Planet - plenty still online
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - haven't played in ages so can't say, sorry
Motorstorm - Also not played in a while. I thought there were still a fair few online, but many may have moved to Motorstorm PR?
Resistance: Fall of Man - As with Motorstorm, I expect many have moved to Resistance 2 now.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - no online available for this title. Still a great game though; you won't regret the purchase

Enjoy your PS3

Re: New PS3 owner - Online support for games I've bought?

I bought RFOM1 a few weeks ago (only a fiver!) - there's still plenty of people online but be prepared to get killed a lot to begin with as there's some very good players on there. The map packs are free now which is a bonus.

Uncharted 1 has no online play but it's a good idea to upgrade to the latest version so you get the trophy support (if you're into that sort of thing). The PS3 will upgrade it automatically if you're online anyway.

That's the trouble with sequels, as soon as they come out the original get's dropped. Perhap's one exception to this though (certainly on the 360) is COD4 and WAW. I do like WAW, but just keep going back to COD4!

Pity about Resistance - 40 player multiplayer sounds absolutely tremendous!!

That's really good to know. How do you rate the online side of Resistance. I do like my FPS, but starting to get bored of COD and Halo 3 just didn't do it for me.

So I'm looking to wet my appetite again on the PS3!

If you like FPSs I'd highly recommend a look at Killzone 2. You can pick it up for around £20 now. It seems to be a bit of a marmite game; love it or hate it. You won't have to look far to find people complaining that it's not like COD but personally I loved it.

I played Resistance 2 online for a bit but never really got on with it. To me it felt like they wanted to grab the headlines with 60 players online but the levels just felt too packed with little room for strategy. Maybe just me though.

As with everything, horses for courses. I'm sure there are plently who love R2 and hate KZ2.

Will I be able to download a demo from the PSN of Killzone 2?

As far as I'm concerned, the less it's like COD the better. Fantastic game / series, but really after a change.

There certainly was a demo but not sure if it's still there. I assume they take them off after a certain amount of time? Best bet would be have a look and see. You can search PSN via genre or alphabetically so shouldn't be hard to find if it's there.

The main thing the COD people complained about was the "unresponsive" controls. Basically there's a (very) small lag between pushing the analogue stick and actually moving your character. It's a design feature rather than flaw though, to simulate actual weight (of both you and the kit you're carrying). But people who played COD a lot said it didn't feel right.

Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disapointed, especially if you can pick it up for £15-£20

You're in the same boat as me it seems. I simply did a search within the playstation store for "demo" and went down the list adding every PS3 exclusive title to my shopping basket before selecting download all. In the end I had nearly 20 demos queued up

The only major title I couldn't seem to find a demo for was Resistance 2, although it was late at night and that may have been user error :D
