When I put +1 earlier I was actually referring to my lad loving it more than me. He's played it from 6½ to 7½ and still goes on it all the time.

He also loves Rag Doll Kung Fu, I know it's fighting but it's more slap stick than violent.

I also bought him Wall:E for his 7th birthday. I'd avoid that unless you want to give him a game that you'll have to play 90% of for him. Even I found some sections frustratingly difficult.

Re: Game for 5 years old

My son loved Cars when he was four (it's not great and gets bad reviews but he loved it). Other games he's played (he's now 5) are Ratchet & Clank, Super Rub-A-Dub (PSN), Burnout, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm and High Velocity Bowling (PSN).

Re: Game for 5 years old

All of those recommended should be good for a 5 year old. My daughter is 4 in November and she plays most of them, she absolutely loves LBP

The other one she really likes is Surfs up and you can pick it up really cheaply now.

I've just bought my 4 year old son Surfs Up, it's an old game but easy for a young one with small hands to control. He never really liked Rub-a-dub, spent hours on Ratchet & Clank Quest for Booty but that was just too tricky for him.

He's had Surfs Up for 3 days now and loves it. With a little help last night he unlocked the 5th character and then went on to a score of over 28,000!

He's happy because he can play the game by himself, so am I.

Ledo Indiana Jones or Lego Star Wars. Both can be found for under £10 each online. Disney's Up is also good.

Each of the above also encourages cooperative play if more than one person are playing.

My brother loves all of those games as well, and I managed to find some even cheaper links:

LittleBigPlanet - £12.95

Lego Indiana Jones - same price as quoted

Ratchet And Clank: Tools of Destruction - £9.95

The Simpsons Game - £12.73

Enjoy

Yeah, my Neice is coming up to her 5th birthday, she's played Rub a Dub at around 3 and while not being completely competent at it, she knew what she was doing in terms of controller movement and getting the duckies into the hole :D

LBP is the one she makes me play with her when visiting, and she loves the Lego games too, just the demo's mind but its quite funny cos she'll boss me around telling me what im supposed to be doing, same thing with UP :D

I think i'll have to get Lego Star Wars at some point, i've played Indy (#1) on PC, Batman doesnt really interest me, likewise Harry Potter when thats released, and i dont fancy paying full price for that or Indy2, so i might just pick up a copy of that some time, or try and get it on rental for next time i visit.

Mini Ninja's is one that i dont think has been mentioned, its had decent reviews and its a kid friendly game. I think that would be worth a look at for kids around 6-8. The demo is on the PSN store, likewise Lego Indy2 & Batman, so those are worth a test run and see what sort of reception it gets.

I'd recomment katamari forever. It's very colourful and bizzare. Some of the humour might go over his head but the game itself is very enjoyable and addictive.

Ratchet and Clank are also pretty good and racing games usually go down pretty well. I'd suggest motorstorm since it can be picked up for around a fiver.

You've just reminded me of another, Locoroco Cocoreccho!

They should have put a demo on the PSN store for it, because i'd never have bought it (ditto Flower, and im sure many others ive not played) however my brother did buy it and i got it off him and its a really nice game.

The music has a certain quality to it, its the sort which would probably drive you absolutely crazy if its not you playing it, but its top! Its like a fairground steam powered flutey musical type... thing, done cute.
Gameplay is simple, the Locoroco 'blobs' are sleeping around a twirly PJ Eden type level, and you control a butterfly which can fly pretty much everywhere around the level, and you wake up the blobs by shaking the 6axis and they come alive and start hopping round the level. The levels are loops so the blobs can go round and round on their own, but the butterfly can influence them and redirect them to wake up other sleeping blobs. You need to find say 25 blobs before you move on and it opens a new section of the loop with more sleeping blob people to find.
Its a very bizarre concept to explain, and its something you have to play to see how simple the idea is, but its still challenging.

Im 29 and ~18 months (:P), and i love it, as does my 4yr old neice, i have no idea how far it goes, cos even i cant complete it! There isnt an ending as such, no lives or anything to lose, you just keep playing. Its beautifully done though, and its a bonus it being an original game which works, rather than a modern version of something that hasnt really evolved since the 90s like many games.

I would definently recommend Locoroco Cocoreccho! My little sister who is 7 now, absolutely loves the locoroco games, seriously - I've not seen my psp for two years because of it, only just got it back off her since I got her a DS for xmas.

Locoroco Coco-whatever, is quite fun, I have no idea what I'm doing when I play it since it's different to the psp games slightly, but I bet your kid would be entertained for a while with it, my little sister can sit there and play for hours on end, usually I get frustrated because I have no idea whats going on and end it about 20 mins in.
