Terrible game. Has tarnished the name of Far Cry for years in the future.
Good points
Gorgeous scenery/graphics
Huge map
Good sound
Good selection of weapons
Bad Points (Major)
The dialogue in-game has been "sped" up, which makes the whole story line just ridiculous. I reckon it has been sped up like x4 normal rate. So when characters talk, they just sound ridiculous. You have to really see this!.
-Story line is absolutely crap, about you doing some missions in Africa, whilst a civil war breaks up. Makes no sense whatsoever.
-Enemies seem to just spawn all over the place at random, and once you clear a place of enemies, they will spawn again if you use the same road again (likely).
-If you die, you will spawn at you previous save game/ save house, which could be WAY back in terms of gameplay. Imagine driving from your save house to e.g. Mike's bar (15min), then bar to mission (20min), then on the way back to mike's bar, you die. Yep, you have to start all over again. The driving is just awful. There is a reason why we don't see actors driving to get from one place to the next (for th sake of reality) in films, caus it is BORING.
-Missions are a joke. You spend 20minutes driving and getting to the mission destination (no joke) and then the mission takes about 5-10min to complete.
-Althought the developers claim 50km squared of game map (true), you can't go where you like and have to stick to long roads/rivers to get to where you want (entire map is blocked by forests/mountains/rivers etc, which makes the whole size of the map useless) and the majority of the game takes place with you just driving, killing enemies that have spawned in the same place that you just cleared in the previous mission.
-Dodgy FOV which gave me major headaches, yes folks, I had to buy the game AGAIN on the PC, so that I could edit the FOV!!!
-A million other things..... Seems VERY amateur in terms of game development, with only the graphics saving the day somewhat.
-Oh yeah, you have to get out of your car/truck and fix it every 10sec if it gets shot (which happens every 5min or so). So basically, you are trying to get from a mission to the save house, so that you can save, but along the way, you encounter the same enemies to you killed on the way TO the mission, on the same road (as there is no way back apart from same road), and you can't run away, as they chase you in cars and shoot your car, which makes it explode (depending on who many times it gets hit (not many). You you get out to be surrounded by like 10 enemies (hard to kill), and you die and start the 40min death trap again.
-To many things to state.
-Also, I played this after playing crysis. Am I correct in thinking that this game was developed by the same studio as Crysis or same publisher, well It looks like a copy of crysis, in terms of physics/graphics etc, but CRIPPLED in a major way. It is as though you are playing crysis for consoles, with 10% of the features that were on the PC. I managed to do the first 2 missions, before I sold the crap game.
-Truly awful.
Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!
Seriously, after you play crysis, this game is like a joke or something.
4/10 (for graphics and nothing else).
Mods. I need to change the title to comply with rules and don't know how o create polls.
Personally I thought it was an excellent game. Yes the travelling was annoying, but using the bus network meant you were never more than a few minutes from the next objective.
My main gripe was the respawning of enemies in the camps. You'd kill them all, walk around the corner and come back and the camp was repopulated. I'd have made it so the camps stayed clear until the follwing day of game time at least.
Apart from that, the shooting was solid, the way the game allowed you to choose if you want to play rambo style and get stuck in, or go all ninja and sneak around setting traps (setting fire to things and tunneling enemies into one area to pick off for example) was really good fun.
I only managed to play it 3 times (8% complete) the widescreen fov is terrible and gave me a migraine after 45 mins of play. They still haven't patched it after 6-7 months, and why is everything brown (including the night sky ???) maybe this was Ubisofts way of saying the game's shi... I'm not going to buy another Ubisoft title after this mess.
The game is massive, you have a huge amount of choice about how to do all of the missions/play the game.
I've not noticed a problem with the FOV or any of the dialogue (i thought the voice acting was quite solid to be honest!). The tearing is pretty bad though, especially at the mid day sort of time.
I'm about 20 hours in to the game so it's not like i've not given it fair chance, i still think it's a great game
I only managed about 3 of 4 hours of play before I became bored and traded it back in (went back to COD 4) It was looking good after all the hype too. I gave it 6/10. Playable but there are much better games out there.
Almost finished the single player game but spend about 5 hours a week on FarCry online and it's blummin great. This game would slip nicely into my top 5 of games of all time and when not playing you can build your own maps with relative ease. Currently working on my 4th Map at the moment and would urge you all to try this one out. Probably only cost about £15 these days. Top marks
Farcry 2 is a game that does something quite differnt to what you may expect. If you are looking for a classic "on the rails" shooter then you will be very disappointed. In truth, the game has next to nothing to do with Farcry on the PC (Which was a great FPS adventure in the vein of Half-Life etc) and much more in common with open-world games like Fallout 3.
The setting for the game, a vast area of African wilderness is amazing, with beautiful graphics and some of the best lighting I have ever seen in a game. The enemies are smart (Although they do have the odd silly moment) and you can hear the speak to one another when they are trying to find you, which adds real immersion and depth to the game.
The combat itself is fantastic, with a wide range of guns to use and incredible depth to the action. Movement is slower than in most FPS games (it is a more realistic "Brisk Walk") but you can sprint if you need to, albeit at the price of being unable to fire your gun until you stop.
The biggest weakness by far is the story, which has a fantastic start only to fall short from then on. Most of the missions feel like the most basic excuse to allow you to go and blow things up, and the backgrounds to your buddies and other characters are never explored. Had the game put more effort into rounding out these it could well have been one of the greatest experiences of all time on a console; as it stands you cannot help but feel that the narrative was rushed (Much like in Crackdown or Assassin's Creed).
Regardless of the sloppy story, the game remains very good fun and is well worth a play. The addition of a solid online mode and one of the best map-editors I have ever used really adds to the appeal. I have been playing Farcry for about 25 hours now, and I am still having tons of fun. I can honestly see myself coming back to it time and time again and spending hours in the dense jungles.
Summery Score: (out of 10)
Graphics: 10 - Beautiful light and amazing jungles - it feels real
Sound: 10 - Fantastic voice acting - brilliant ambiance - stunning music
Combat: 9 - Some of the best shooting action in years
Story: 6 - A fantastic start ends up falling flat, its not bad but it could have been so much more
Overall - 9 / 10 - While it takes patience to play, the game offers an experience unlike anything else to date (Perhaps bar STALKER).
I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. Especially after reading some of the horror story reviews.
The game could have been a lot better. Anybody who has played the game will know that. My main gripe was how repetitive the game became. The repetitive aspect of the game reminded me of Assassin's Creed.
The game is worth a play through, especially as you can pick it up for between £10 and £15. It's a solid base for them to work with and build on for future games.
