Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Just finished my first play through, and have really enjoyed this game, graphics great, sound great (but scary) not an all out shooter. You have to think about how you are going to upgrade your kit.

I really can't wait to play through again for tropies and with my upgraded weapons.

For thirty quid I thought this was a bargain so for fifteen, no excuse not to buy it.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

I'm currently about halfway through, but feel strongly enough about it to vote already - absolutely superb game!

Really spooky in places, especially after dark with the surround sound on. As a bit of a sci fi geek i love the fact that when you're in a vacuum there's no sound except the sounds inside your suit.

It's really immersive, there are no cut scenes, exposition is done "in game", so the feel of the whole thing is more cinematic.

Gameplay is excellent, nice touch that you're a mechanic rather than a soldier, using engineering tools. The stasis and kinesis modules are a great idea.

Graphics are really good too, as you would expect.
Anyone who loved Resident Evil 4 or Dark Sector should get this game!

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

i've given it 10/10 because it has to be one of the best games of 2008. and one of the most stunning visual games out today, the last Lv just amazing anyone that completed it i'm sure would agree. Game play is smooth and challenging. It will pull you back in for a secong run through not just for the extra trophies.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

I voted 7/10 when really, it it minimum 8 (I mis clicked doh).

as mentioned, the graphics are brilliant, the sound, some of the best on a video game for sheer atmosphere. The ship sounds like it is alive, creaking and groaning.

I'm only on my first playthrough and agree that if you liked Resi 4 then you will love this.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Rented this, got to level 4 on medium and just thought I don't want this game to end so restarted on hard and just had to buy it ...am currently on level 11 and will definitely be playing it through again. Such a solid game - gameplay, graphics, audio, it's all there. I gave it a 9 and then wondered why I hadn't clicked 10 - one of the best games I've played and I'm not a resident evil fan and generally not into third persons.

...it does what it does so well - no complaints and fully recommended... gaming at it's best?!

Yeah i wanted to give it a ten, the only reason i didn't is because i'm reluctant to give anything a perfect score!

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

I would give it 8/10. Loved it first time through but second time round all the magic is gone and its a bit tedious. Just find myself playing for 30 - 45 minute chunks every few weeks and that is only to get more trophies, without those I would have no desire to replay the game at all. This is in stark contrast to Resident Evil 4 which I played through countless times and unlocked everything and never seems to get bored with it.

Graphics and gameplay are ace but the sound is exceptional. That is really what makes (made) the game for me. The GUI is fantastic too, the best in the genre without doubt. The scares are kinda cheap and predictable but still very effective. They definitely overused the whole monster(s) jumping out at you in a corridor trick to the point where I was expecting it in every corridor. I like how the mix up the gameplay with the zero gravity sections but the shooting bits (the asteriods and the boss) were a bit rubbish IMO and felt tacked on. The story kind of sucked too, didn't think the whole religion subplot added anything to the game.

Makes me sad this is shaping up to be the better game compared to Resi 5.

testament to the game imo that with those complaints (which are fair enough) you still gave it an 8

Yeah re reading my 'review' it does sound like I am very negative about the game but I am not. Most of what is good about the game had already been posted so didn't want to bother repeating all the praise. No one had really mentioned any criticisms so I felt compelled to point out some of the parts of the game I enjoyed less.

I do wish they had done more to make replays more enjoyable. You have the option to play again on a harder difficulty and start from scratch which is fair enough but just giving you a new suit is kinda lame, especially since to get the benefit of it you are replaying on the same difficulty with all your equipment intact, which makes the game ridiculously easy and not much fun. I think single player only games these days really need to offer better replay value, and particularly for a the survival horror genre which has a history of greatly rewarding extra playthroughs with different stuff to unlock or changes to the game.

Game was awesome for me first time through though. It's some of my favorite horror movies brought together in game form. It would make a great rental for that reason not really a game you have to buy IMO, especially since (so far) the DLC has sucked and is atrociously priced.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

fair enough...

i'm not sure what these guys are thinking charging for the DLC they're offering...same with LBP (which I love too) you want me to pay for a costume??! that's a bloody cheek.

I agree about the replay of single player games..it would be nice if second or third time through there was something different on offer that rewarded the extra time put in..and there was easily scope for that with dead space...I'm not into survival horrors usually and have never been a resi fan - maybe I should give that a go..

I've never really been into playing single players through more than once but dead space got me good and proper and I'll definitely be on it again

Dead Space PS3 Reviews

In future can everyone please read the review guide lines thread stickied at the top of this section before creating new poll threads. There are supposed to be 11 categories and NOT 10. I've had to redo the poll and move all the posts to the new thread. This also means that all previous votes will have been lost and everyone who already voted will need to vote again. Also please make sure all polls are created as public ones so we can see who voted what score.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Being new to PS3, this was the 3rd purchase. Before that Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Heavenly sword. At the moment playing Bioshock. But Dead Space is an absolutely fantastic game no doubt about it.
It will scare the living daylights out of you, but push through. Once you completed it once, a military suit (that looks totally awesome!!!) is available. Buy it! There is also a suit that you can download for about $3. But this one reminds of the star wars movie - attack of the clones outfit.
Brilliant graphics. You will be able to leap from floor to ceiling in zero gravity. Really challenging and really heartracing game. I cannot reccommend it enough. I
This game also won an award for best sound. Most ghasly creatures you will come across anytime soon. Look for cheats on the net and get your fair share of power nodes to upgrade your weapons and your RIG.

Fantastic Gaming!!

Great game. on my 4th play through now, trying to do in on impossible difficulty for the platinum. Well worth the purchase at full price but it can be picked up for around £15.00 which makes it a steal.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Gone for 8/10.

Enjoyable atmospheric game that has a few annoyances - someone has paid great attention to creating an appalling map system.

I'm not keen on the idea that developers resort to achievements / trophies to make gamers go through multiple play through's if they like to "unlock" everything, and this is the case with many games currently, not just Dead Space, 4 or even 5 seems to be the average for this game, twice is probably fair enough but doing more than that removes the shock factor, which just means the game turns into a chore rather than a pleasure.

Excellent graphics and sound effects, albeit a little repetetive.

Game of the year last 2008 for me.

Graphics, sound and gameplay are all excellent. Easily better than the hyped RE5.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

I got this when it was released, but I seem to have so little time for gaming that I only just finished it (less than a year is pretty good for me, Mass Effect took me nearly 18 months, and I've been playing Oblivion on and off for 2 years!)

I thought this was hands down the best game I've played on PS3, I really liked the plot, the atmosphere, and the sound (as long as you have 5.1) is particularly good, really sucks you into the atmosphere.

While the graphics are fantastic, especially for a multi-platform game, the actual artistic design and the attention to detail really worked well. Even at the end of the game I still find my self rotating around to admire the 3D HUD effect.

Even though this game has been well-reviewed, and praised, It just seemed to really click with me. Great.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

I actually traded in my copy of fallout 3 for this (one completion was enough for me).

I found this to be a quite interesting game with nice artwork, coupled with a very dark and atmospheric score that just added to the already quite dark atmosphere.

The gameplay itself could be a little clumsy at times and I found myself bumping into things a lot when running fast. Also another slight annoyance was that I would have appreciated an option to duck on occasion so as to avoid those spitting transmorphse or whatever they were That said I did like the gameplay overall and found quite a few sections of the game where I would have to replay to get to know the enemies moves

Overall a very different game to fallout3, I found this to be one of my favs of 08/09, probably only finding killzone slightly more attention holding / entertaining..

Definately a game for scifi lovers..

7/10

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Got this game a while back great game and in my opinion much better than resident evil 5 had good atmosphere shooting mechanics and crazy death animations, would recommend any to see the youtube videos of them they are a bit crazy. the one negative of this game is that it is exeptionally unoriginal in nearly every aspect as it has taken the best bits from other games and has made a good game so its not that much of an issue.

Re: Dead Space PS3 Reviews

Picked this up for £10 at Argos.

I gave it a 9/10. This game had me jumping from the get go. Best played at night with the surround cranked up. (If you can of course)

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the game looked great. Impossible is quite hard mainly for ammo but it can be done.

I got the platinum trophy after over 20 hours playing.

Great game and the best £10 i've spent on the PS3 so far.

I probably shouldn´t votar because I didn´t complete the game or get anywhere near the end, the levels I did play were excellent. I wanted to keep playing but the camara view made me very nauseous , ¿did anyone else have this happen to them?
