Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

For me, it's too dark and dreary. Graphics are OK but not brilliant (what's with that bloody black border!?!?!?). AI is nothing special and I also find the controls a pain in the rumpus!!
A Halo killer this 'aint (in my humble opinion).

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

9/10 from me now that i've overcome the controls hurdle and got out of the COD mindset...

Graphics/Sound/Atmosphere are the best I've seen on any console, the game itsself is quite a challenge, even trooper is quite tough! would be a 10 with co-op and split screen...

I'm glad this has come out now as I was getting royaly p$%$ed off with WAW, it will give me my online FPS fix untill MW2...

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

I give it a 9/10

It just seems to get better the more I play it.

Stuck at the moment with the ATAC on the roof. I don't last long and then I'm dead!!

The online rules (when played with the right people)

I normally hate FPS on consoles, PC's are much better at FPS, but this game is great.

I voted 10, but i wouldn't call it perfect. It has to be a 10 for me as it's the best shooter i've played, so if anything deserves a 10, this does.

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

Right, I've had this since Friday and had a busy weekend playing the single player on Veteran. I've just got past the train section, so not sure how much I've got left.

Overall I have to say it's a good game. It feels nice and chunky, and I will always prefer shooters that feel nice and solid with real guns. Have had some nice firefights and I am enjoying it.

However, it's not great at all. There are too many flaws for me to really think it's a classic, or to even take it from good to great.

Firstly, the cover system doesn't work very well. Too many times I will sprint up to cover, only to find I don't 'snap' into cover properly when I press the duck/cover button. Sometimes I'll sprint to cover, only to find myself hovering over the cover, or on top of it.

Secondly, your team mates are crap. Too often they get decimated by the enemy... and so rare is it for them to do anything more than take the odd one or two enemy troopers down, that it's still a shock when it does happen. Sometimes I'll run into a combat area, and finish off the enemy unaided... only to go back and find my team mate is hanging around the door we came in and hasn't moved! Too often as well I'll be taking cover by a whole gang of my own troops and vehicles, expecting them to cover the flanks and at least support me while I am picking off the enemy from cover... only to find there's loads of the Helghan on both sides and even behind me... running around without a care!

Thirdly, infinite spawning enemy in some areas. This is a horrible cheap way of making a random area 'harder'. The worst culprit so far has been the train section where you have to take out the tank with the RPG. The troops keep spawning back until you've destroyed it. Also, your team mate invariably dies within seconds of this encounter happening as he charges round the corner instead of taking cover, and gets slaughtered unless you steam in with the bolt gun and take the enemy out in less than 10 seconds (which is the only way I got past this bit!).

Fourthly (?!), the slow awful animations when you get onto mounted weapons. How many times have you died as your character rushes to the MPG/weapon on a vehicle... only for your character to get slaughtered as he goes through the silly animation of getting onto the gun? The worst bits for this again were the train mounted gun, and also the anti-air gun on the bridge.

There's a few other niggly things that I can't think of right now, or the fact that the sniper rifle isn't very satisfying nor are the grenades.

Those things aside though, it's a good game and I have enjoyed it so far. I just don't think it's as good as say Gears Of War (which I think is far more similar to compare than COD is, despite it not really being a FPS), which does things like the cover system much better.

Definitely one of the best PS3 releases so far, and a good sign of things to come I hope.

7/10

Unfortunately it's AVF policy according to the sticky to call 10/10 "perfect".

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

Well SP is a 7 from me...good in bits, but forgettable (except the lightening gun, which is wicked).

MP is shaping to be a 9 or 10 (and more than good enough to carry the SP) so once I've ranked to General I will post an actual score.

Is that just on the PS3 forums as on the 360 forum its not?

*EDIT* - Looking at the 360 forums they place outstanding at 10 then excellent at 9 and remove perfect from the poll. Some people would never vote a "perfect" score which does detract from the number of 10's this game could receive.

I can't review this game yet, as I have still not even completed as far as the demo content in the SP yet, and don't feel that I have played enough MP yet (only about 10 hours so far). It hasn't even been out a week

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

It's up there with the likes of The Orange Box, COD4 & Bioshock for me. As I gave them all 10, then I must also give this a 10. It's not perfect (and why some folk on here still use a scale that says a 10 is perfect I do not know), but it's certainly one of the best examples of the genre i've played.

Both the single player, the multiplayer and even the AI Skirmish game are all fantastic and the visuals are the best i've seen on a console.

An early contender for GOTY for me.

Yea, I dont think you will ever get a perfect game. Im sure there will always be a few problems. And your verdict is just a opinion, some people like GTA some dont, some like COD4 some dont ect...

Re: Killzone 2 PS3 Reviews

8 for me, an epic singleplayer extravaganza and resounding online success (or at least it seems so at the moment).

When we expect too much from a title we tend to make unrealistic comparisons and have unrealistic expectations. I'm happy to have all those war game cliches present in such a brillilant engine, but each to their own.

In 2005 I watched that famous video and gawped along with everyone else, and I can safely say that guerilla delivered on their promise to bring such a powerful vision of war to our screens, regardless of the various niggles that have the potential to be fixed through patches.

I didn't say it would be my GOTY, just that it's an early contender. If GT5 does come out this year (which I guess is possible in Japan) then that will probably be my GOTY. It's certainly my most anticipated game of this generation of consoles .

Yeah, very odd as it kind of means that the 10 score is redundant as a perfect game is impossible and there hasn't been one since the dawn of time. Even the likes of Zelda OOT, Mario 64, RE4, Deus EX, MGS4 etc. are not perfect.

If I rated it any less than 10 then I would effectively be saying that it's not as good as other shooters which i've rated 10 (in a score comparison) however.

There should be a standard scoring method for all AVF sub forums so that the scores can be compared between games on different platforms. Having this scoring system as opposed to the one in the 360 forum, will see PS3 games with a lower score overall than 360 games.

Not a bad game but nothing special either. A straightforward FPS with nice graphics and rather poor controls. I find it quite strange that so many people think it's an instant classic but then again this game has been hyped to silly levels over the past few years.

Couldn't agree with you more. The PS3 fanboys have been pinning all their hopes on this since the PS3 was first announced so feel a bit a silly now that it's not the killer app they thought it would be but understandably don't want to admit it.Either that or they like above average games.
How people are scoring this game 10/10 is beyond me.

How people are scoring this game 10/10 is beyond me.
Maybe because they actually like the game and think it's worth 10/10, now theres a surprise. Same as some people may think you are silly thinking it's no good. Works both ways doesn't it.
I'm waiting to pass full judgment until I have finished the game, but I'm glad it doesn't play like COD, I want different games not the same.

Nick why don't you just vote and leave your review? Marvel has and has also said his piece. Surely the point of the review section is so people can look up other peoples individual opinions on the game. Not to read discussions / responses about fanboy reactions etc. If you cant hold your own on the main discussion threads surely you can see this thread is not the bridge to set up your new home under!

If you look at the scores the majority of people and rightly so have given it 9/10.

I dont feel at all silly either
