Re: Street Fighter IV PS3 Reviews

Was torn between a 9 or a 10, but settled on a 9. An excellent game and update of the series that I can honestly imagine still playing intensively this time next year. Online matches really open the game up to other peoples playing styles and becomes as much a game of strategy as anything.

Only thing stopping me voting a 10 is I'm not convinced the new characters have the strength of the classics. Rufus and El Fuerte feel a little gimmicky and Rose a strange character for SF. And don't get me started on Seth!!! Gen and Gouken look like they'll be getting a lot of play time though.

Will be amazed if I enjoy a game more than this one all year though and highly recommend to all

Re: Street Fighter IV PS3 Reviews

Ive gone for a 9 as well!

Its rejuvenated my gaming and it plays like classic SF2 but with enough additional features to make it different in its own right!

25 characters to choose from, arcade mode, challenges and online all add to its lastability! Ill agree with dave and say that the new characters aint much cop compared to the rest. Oh and dave Rose isnt a new character, shes been in some of the earlier SF games!

My only negatives are:

Dont think much of the 4 new characters
Too many kens online
Needs a lobby and tournament option online to make it more fun!

The main drawing point for any SF game is the fact that every fighter only has about 3-5 special moves and they are generally the same movements, IE charge back/forward or half circle etc etc.
So the game is noob friendly but has lots of depth with the various combos you can perform and its all mind games online!

9/10 for me. Best fighting game on PS3.

Would have been 10/10 if the online play was better. Main faults are.. no multi player lobby system (hopefully gunna be patched).. search/join process is bugged (too many 'unable to play').. random disconnects in ranked matches (even in the first round.. so its not people switching off to avoid loss). Although people who switch off are idiots.. and people with lag switches are even worse.

superb game and has got me back into playing games again. It is 9/10 for me as the online side of it is not perfect and i think the AI could be better in arcade mode IMO either that or i have just too darn good at it. Overall it is an stunning game graphically and i love the cheese feast of it. Street fighter game rule and always will be the ultimate fighters due to there 2d style for me.

Re: Street Fighter IV PS3 Reviews

The best fighting game.

I've regarded SSF2T as the best fighting game for along time, however this really does go well beyond and put to bed all the lame 3d fighting games that have been pretenders to the SF2 crown.

Its get the simple gameplay right, pure 2d, no air-blocking, easier to do special moves, the orig characters play like they did, not too many new characters, not too many repeating character styles, enough new moves to change the play dynamics if you want and a revenge meter to counter large damage if you've taken a beating.

The orig charcters look like their old 2d counter parts, even the animation key-frames and hit-boxes are pulled from the old game. Nice simple touches.

I like the way they've tried to make some normal ken/ryu characters play very differently too (Gouken springs to mind).

The new charcaters are totally different, at first alien, but they can be very powerfull when played right (note to self, play as different char more).

Backgrounds look great (except maybe Seths pink/purple monstrosity) and some realy nice touches with people falling over, parts of buildings coming off with big heavy ground thumping hits.

As others have said it could do with the online side of things worked on abit, but it works the basics at the moment. Even with laggy connections, the gameplay hasnt been too bad. The tournament mode from SSF2THDR would be welcome.

Its kept killzone2 out of my machine.

Re: Street Fighter IV PS3 Reviews

I just got this yeasterday and after 3 hours or so I have given it an 8. It is very fun and I hope I manage to raise my game at least a little, otherwise I can see my self getting bored of being beaten to a pulp online fairly quickly.
