FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

What do you think of this years fifa?

I love it. 9/10
Completley blown away by it this year, was gonna get pes again as i always do but this game swung it for me this year and i'm glad i purchased this instead.

The skills with right stick and L2 are amazing and are actually really usefull in the game.

Only losing 1 mark because of a few niggles i have.
When defending a lob the player looks up to recieve the ball and slows down, then the attacker has caught up and steals the ball... very frustrating.

Online is awsome 10 vs 10 or just 1 vs 1 its all good so far.

I must say this is the most fun Ive had with any football game in the past. So after buying PES most years and Fifa a few times - I think Fifa 09 is the best football game Ive played.

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

9/10 played it more than any game for years.

Im working my way through BEP offline at the moment.

I switched to ISS Pro Evo many years ago as it played the best football - well I feel without a doubt FIFA now has that crown.

Konami are stuck between a rock and a hard place - it now has basic and dated type of football but its what lots of people love. Do they change it and possibly get it wrong - or do they keep it the same and just update the graphics and options? It appears they have choosen the later and are the new EA. They are taking your money for a game you have already owned.

FIFA was once the best football game going - EA stuck to that formula even although it was super dated and lost its crown for many years - Konami are now making that same mistake.

I dont really care aslong as I have 1 superb football game to play every year - and this year its blatently FIFA.

You only have to read the various forums to see that PES is losing fans in droves to FIFA.

FIFA09 is the new ISS PES which was the new FIFA back in 99.

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

Improves big time on '08 IMO.

Makes '08 feel like it is on rails, the 'keepers are better....and worse.....which is good as mistakes do happen for real, the way you can fight for the loose ball adds to the game, for lower league fans they have spent more time on this area so they all don't play identically now. ALL the 100% scoring tricks are now out of the window which sorts the men from the boys....a very big thumbs up for that Oh and the linemen/ref are a good addition, not when the ref gets in the way of my build up play tho

Only downside is the AI can be extremely dodgy at times (only seems to happen to the last man in defence or the last striker thru on goal tho ) altho we are told EA is on the problem and to expect a patch, fix that and it's nearly there.

9 from me, love it

Had this for a week before selling it and ordering PES.

Looks great with superb presentation, online works a treat also.

Didn't like the slow response times, made the game far to slow and build up play very fustrating at times. The ball physics didn't seem as good as the other footy game, the ball seemed very heavy. Not much fun at all really.

Overall 5/10

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

Positives
- Be a Pro mode is excellent online
- Better player models than 08
- Some guaranteed goal tactics are no longer 100% effective
- Better keepers
- Ref and linesman present
- Good offline Be a Pro mode
- More punishment for bad tackles, even after a long period of advantage played

Negatives
- Ridiculous AI at times and not feeling fully in control of what the player is doing
- Menu's are too cluttered and confusing
- Defences seem to defend too high up the pitch meaning the lofted thru ball is a commonly used tactic, especially with the better teams with quick players
- Because of the above, midfield becomes way too busy with the ball pinging around uncontrollably at times
- Due to the way tackling and pressing is made too easy, no time at all on the ball
- Better teams are even better than ever, certain players are pretty untouchable and everybody uses Man Utd, Barcelona or Inter Milan in online games....boring!
- Referees sometimes wait stupid amounts of time to award a free kick after an offside

Overall, I awarded it a 7/10 for the poll but would give it 7.5 if the option was there. Disappointed really that it has moved on in some ways but taken a step backwards in others. Not the improvement i was hoping for.

Overall 5/10
I thought this at first to.
Being a pro evo player for the last 6 odd years i found it very frustrating at first because i was trying to play like i do with pes. But after you realise you cant just sprint everywhere and you have to mix it up like a real game of football, using the skills and knocking the ball into space to escape standing tackles and you have to build up an attack.
I thought players were slow to react at first but again it's just that i was used to pes and being able to turn really quick after recieving the ball and pass before you passing foot has caught up.
I promise if you stick with it and realise that it's not an arcade style football game but a very accurate immatation of the real game (sometimes the ball actually doesnt go where you want it or you cant just run passed people for 90 mins) it really is good fun.
Especially because of manager mode and stuff, much more fun playing as a league 1 side and getting into the premiership and f.a cup, league cup, champions league all official, instead of the same master league format.
and the commentary is really good.

So anyone reading this and thinking i dont wanna play a game thats slow and unresponsive and i'm used to pes i would say stick at it, it is a big learning curve but its a challenge to get used to and i have some really fun games with friends and online. Just my thought. rik

I think that is the main problem and a reoccuring theme...PES players playing it like PES and thinking 'I can't play this...it's ****'. Have that view and not willing to adapt then you won't like it whatsoever, it's a totally different game.

Change your tactics then.. that's pretty obvious. Unless you were referring to it's too easy to do it to the computer.

- Because of the above, midfield becomes way too busy with the ball pinging around uncontrollably at times
Same as above

- Due to the way tackling and pressing is made too easy, no time at all on the ball
Make space for yourself and use L2 for a closer control, don't run at the same time.
Some of the negatives can easily be dealt with imo

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

Having been a Pro Evoite for many years it was a tough decsion to get this game ahead of Pro Evo 2009 but based on the demo's that's exactly what I did.

Overall I'm extremely impressed with the package and that's only having touched the Tournament and Online modes. The only areas I feel it lacks in are in player switching(why damnit does it never change to the player you want when defending, first time?); the occassional (extreme unrealistic)silliness from your goalies; and when playing a chipped pass through, the players go in to some sort of trance.

I'd give it an 8.5 but as that's not available, it's a 9 from me with high hopes for 2010

It will probably end up being my most played game of the year but then I am a footy addict

Some great points rised here, this sums up imo the game very well.. 7/10 is a fair score.

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

Overall its better than FIFA2008 but there is still room for improvement. It is however the best game available at present.
It does get frustrating sometimes as the computer selects the wrong player to be active at times or is a little slow to respond. Nevertheless it is addictive and I would rate it 9 out of 10.

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

After being an avid Pro Evo fan for the past 8+ years, I was dissapointed with last years version, but stuck with it as it was the titles first attempt at a next-gen console. This year's version of PES was basically the game we should have had last year, making it dated and not a great, new game just a revamped title.

I decided to get FIFA09 after playing the demo and can confirm I am glad I made that choice. The game is much more in depth and realistic compared to PES. For me on Pro you score the same types of goals, on FIFA I must admit I do score alot of 1vs1's but also have scored some great volleys, long rangers, free kicks and penalties (Which I think are one of the best bits on the game)

All in all the game is probably the best footy game since PES2006 on the PS2.

9/10 for me, only gripe is the advantage system seems flawed, unless anyone knows of a button you can press to accept the advantage offered by the referee?

re: FIFA 09 PS3 Reviews

I'd rate the 360 version slightly higher (a 9) and the PS3 version an 8, purely because it's niggly to play against a friend online on the PS3 version, why didnt they just include a private match option and the ability to invite a friend? it's silly, Sony need to get strict with developers and give them a set list of guidelines for PSN like with Xbox Live.
