Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

I voted very good, if it had decent comms I'd vote excellent. Always been a fan of The UT series and love the massive open maps of Warfare. Having two teams playing against each other who know their vhecles strengths and weaknesses is something to behold and games can switch balance in a matter of seconds.

Some won't like it because of the speed, some may even think the gfx are crap the latter point I personally really can't understand as I think it looks superb.

Bottom line, if you like CoD4 then just keep moving, this is nothing like it. If you like BIG maps, vehicles and team based base attacks/defence ala Battlefield then this maybe your cuppa tea. Oh and you gotta try the Dalkwalker!

Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

7/10 - it is actually a very good game but is let down by a bad single player and no offline split screen mp.

Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

Very Good.

Again, if it had open comms and integrated (properly) Friends Lists it would get a "9". As is meeting up with your mates is a bit tiresome. Not a vast amount of maps, compared to previous UT games, but solid to current contemporarys. Single-player a bit weak, but online 4 player co-op is a bonus.

Good points = BOTS! Noone does bots anymore, R6V2's Terrorist Hunt is about the closest, but being able to set parameters for bots (or at all) is a sorely missed feature. Excellent graphics; people that say "worse than Gears of War" need their eyes checking. Custom mods and maps allow for weird user-created content. Excellent run n gunning, fast but not too twitchy.

Much like Team Fortress 2, i think UT3 is vastly under appreciated, partly due to it's own creation, mostly due to other games stealing their thunder and gamers being a little "focused" in their tastes. Get it - enjoy!

Tried it a bit and so desperately trying to like it, but its poor tbh.

I voted Average - I am sure if there were more competition on the PS3 it would have got worse reviews.

Seems to me to look poor (I am using 1080p Sony Bravia)....washed out, grainey, poor textures, poor colour etc. Even things like lighting and shine effects are not great.

It also feels clunky etc, really don't think the vehicles add a lot anyway, but I can over look that as I prefer straight CTF anyway.

To be fair I really need to try with a m+k but dont have one.

Just does not work on the console for me, and I am disapointed - will sell pretty soon. SOme shooters do work, but not this IMHO.

It offers nothing the old UTs I played years ago on PC did, looks hardly any better, plays slower and feels clumsy.

Gutted really

Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

I voted 9/Outstanding. Apart from the broken comms, I love this game. I really like the fact that they have included playing against bots. Single player is not what this game is about, so I used it as training. For me it looks good, the weapons and vehicles are wonderful and the user content is sublime. A real cultural change for a console shooter with its mods/mutators and one which I do not think should be underestimated.

Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

what a great game, even so i voted average

frame rate is locked at a seemingly jerky 20 fps ? perhaps less

textures dont load imediately spoiling the immersion.

typical ps3 jaggies errg

and to top it off its 720p which doesnt look as clean as 1080p would have been, for some reason the 720p nature of this is amplified more than say drakes quest ?? its as if its rendered lower and then upscaled to 720p like COD4 was

textures? set on 'low' really now ps3 does struggle just like ps2, in fact ps3 is like an amplified ps3

in fact the whole graphical nature of the game seems a bit like running on a pc with all the options turned OFF

i can still tell its a great game, its just that when its out on xbox360 im sure the edges will be smooth and whole screen gaming more fluid and deep with nice colours and effects.

for me the poor image and framerate spoil this game, you can even walk quickly from side to side to see the last frame of the edge of the building still in view slightly i.e Way too slower frame rate i cant play for more than an hour as it hurst my eyes more than i can be bothered with

im glad i got my ps3 for blueray and the occasional stunner like drake quest but wouldnt choose it for gaming now ive had a good taster games that feature on both platforms.

a seriously good game ruined by the technology it runs on

Sinelanguage i think you should go and get your eyes tested or your tv calibrated. This game looks utterly superb. I was really impressed by the framerate, rock solid, smooth and no jerkiness. Graphics are indeed wonderful, full of colour and great effects. Unless you are comparing this to a supadupa PC version this game stand head and shoulders above most games on PS3.

Just my tuppence

frame rate is appaling, perhaps it is my set, i tried at 50hz and 60hz settings it seems like 20fps to me, on the other hand COD4 is slick and so was drakes quest my tv is a £2k lcd high end model. i notice when something is good or bad.

also, i found the textures too saturated, grainy and lacking in any pop, crispness, smooth edges and overall they looked like a Jpeg compressed format.
was disapointed with the low resolution of the game, i was expecting 1080p crispness, i know 720p can look great too though.

certainley holding onto the analogue sticks without my fingers falling off them is hard enough on the ps3 controller.

no, bad frame rate, graphics are great for a ps3 but not what weve seen on xbox360 or pc recently.

i can tell underneath its essencially a good game though.

You must be crazy Sinelanguage. UT3 is one of the best looking next-gen games around and its ultra-fast with no slowdown.

I've read alot of your posts on here and you just love bashing the PS3 at any opportunity.

Why dont you get rid of it mate - perhaps you could have spent that £2k on your TV on a high-spec PC or something. UT3 looks absolutely awesome on my £800 LG 32" LCD.

I have a 40" Sony X series and it looks superb.
Framerate seems locked, it seems 30 but if it is 20fps i do not notice as the game is super smooth and very fast. In fact id go as far to say (although they are not comparable games) that frame rate seems smoother than drakes.

What games on 360 look better than this recently? my friend has one and it does look great on his Sony V series but to be honest i dont see nothing im not seeing on the PS3

I take the comparisons with a huge shovel of salt.
Apart from the EA sport efforts that is

Game is fantastic! Makes a change from the slower paced games and the user created content is awesome, running around in 3rd person as master chief, shooting at marcus fenix is brilliant

Re: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Reviews

haha i returned to this thread months down the line and ive had a few people shout at me.

iam not a fan boy for microsoft or sony, i hate both companies equally

I have an opinion on the game, i expressed it in detail. i didnt not slate the console. Im quite suprised people did not recieve infractions for such rudeness but hey..

i have yet to play a good game on PS3. i now only use it as a blueray player. there is no real gaming power avaliable.

Way off topic - please do not clog up review threads with pointless criticisms of hardware and incendiary posts.
