Re: Devil May Cry 4: Review Thread

Was hugely dissapointed with this. I bought the collectors edition and took it back to GAME the following moring. I played it for about half an hour and decided it was just NOT my type of game at all.

DOubtless it will appeal to many, but it bored me to tears.

Re: Devil May Cry 4: Review Thread

I enjoyed DMC1 and to a lesser extent 2.
But with these button bashers is there really a lasting appeal?
Equally having played Heavenly Sword and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I was bored literally within minutes and want the enemies to die already so I could do something other than bash the buttons manically.
What am I missing? Even considering combos, there tends to be 1 that is best and so you just stick with that.

Re: Devil May Cry 4: Review Thread

This is the kind of game I got a PS3 for, Japanese action adventures with outstanding production values and a story that's a little bit leftfield . Gave it an 8, problems with the camera angle prevent me from giving it higher.

Like to see an Omnimusha for the PS3, haven't seen anything mentioned though?

Good god man! You like Turok and the The Club, but find this boring?

I love my shooters (Got R6V, RFOM, Uncharted, GRAW 2, UT3 & COD4) but after that lot, Turok & The Club just don't cut it.

This however is the variety my PS3 needs. It just oozes style.

Yep.....bored the life out of me.

I mainly play FPS games as I am not into sports games. Turok and The Club are an entirely different genre to the likes of COD4 and Uncharted and for that reason I think I am enjoying them a bit more.

Have played all there is to play until new stuff begins to appear.

Re: Devil May Cry 4: Review Thread

I liked this. Just finished it after 12 hrs 58 mins and enjoyed it from start to finish. It does what it says on the tin and really it's no different to previous versions (bar improved graphics) but what it does it does very well.

The graphics are of a high standard, the cut scenes are very good, well directed with some decent voice acting and I really liked the music throughout this game. The gameplay is pure DMC and is very smooth and refined and although I prefer the GOW games, this is still great fun.

I doubt i'll play it again (too many other games to get through) so will trade it in (and hopefully get back around the £24 I paid for it) but there is lastability there for DMC nuts with the online leaderboards and accomplishments.

Overall i'd give this a solid 8/10 and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good hack & slash arcade adventure.

Re: Devil May Cry 4 PS3 Reviews

the graphics on this game are awsome! and i like nero character, but it got very annoying with the camera angles and then half way through you had to play as dante and i thought he was rubbish compaired to nero. then you have to spend 2 or 3 missions running all the way back over things youve just done with nero, same bosses ett. that was the final straw for me ive got better things to do with my time than repeat stuff, so sold it and buying somthing else.

dissaponting

Thumbs down Re: Devil May Cry 4 PS3 Reviews

Severly dissapointed with this game. The programmers need to be bitch slapped for this dissapointment.

The graphics are absolutely beautiful, a marvel look at (9/10).
The sound is also very good, although the sound of the SAME music playing throughout the game during fight sequences can get annoying.

Now for the main part. The game is split into 20 missions, between Nero and Dante.
Nero plays the first 11 or so missions. throughout Nero's missions, the game is 9/10, with excellent level designs and imaginative bosses, who ARE FUN to fight. Yes, you've heard it, the bosses are fun to fight, unlike some games, which I have sold due to silly boss fights.
Althought you fight using the same button crunches, it never gets boring, due to character change and new weapons etc.

After 11 missions, Dante takes over, and to my horror, you have to play the SAME missions for the next 7 or so missions. I'm sorry, but this just takes the ****. The programmers have just changed the time of day and weather conditions, and a slight change in the way you have to go all the way back to the beginning. So, in effect, you will go from mission 11>1, in reverse with Dante. This is just downright tedious.
The way I got through it without ripping the game apart was due to Dante's completly different fighting styles and weapons.

Then you get to to mission 19 and guess what. The bloody idiot programmers make you FIGHT THE SAME 5 or so bosses ALL OVER AGAIN IN 1 MISSION..
They are not hard, but this takes the ****ing ****. I'm sorry for swearing, but can you imagine going through a game's 11 missions, and then playing the same missions again over the next 7 missions (WITH THE SAME BOSES) and then FIGHTING THE SAME BOSSES AGAIN IN 1!!!!!! MISSION.

This is by far the worst game I have ever had the misfortune to play. If this game finished by mission 14 (as mission 18/20 are different), then this game would get 9/10 (due to brilliant bosses/level design/graphics/sound).

But this game gets a 4/10 (only because I enjoyed the game throughly upto mission 11).

Future gamers beware what you are in for.!!!!!!

Now where is my shotgun, I'm off to Japan to teach some bastard programmers a lesson.

THE MOST TEDIOUS GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN 7 YEARS. !!!!!!!!!

Re: Devil May Cry 4 PS3 Reviews

One of my all-time favourite games, utterly sublime in every aspect (although the repeating stages was pretty cheap). Incredible graphics running at 60fps, fantastic DD soundtrack, awesome cutscenes, fantastic OTT storyline, combat depth which is simply second to none, chock-a-block full of secrets and unlocks. Been playing it for months and still not bored with it. 10/10

Re: Devil May Cry 4 PS3 Reviews

I thought that it was a very good, polished game with great visuals. It was very playable and despite the recapping old levels I really enjoyed the experience. I gave it a good solid 8/10 when I voted for it (after finishing it, shortly after launch) but I couldn't give it any more than that. It was fairly short lived, felt like just another (albeit good) DMC game and the repeating of the levels was rather cheap.

Something like this would be good to play co-op, but there's no effort to bring the game online in an online world (bar some scoreboards).

What is there is very good, but it's a very safe game and there's nothing here (apart from the visuals) which couldn't really be have been done last generation.

I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants a really good single player hack & slash though.

Re: Devil May Cry 4 PS3 Reviews

I have to follow the general consensus on this one... It is a bit disappointing. It is fun for about an hour or two but then you pretty much have to play the game again in the second half.

Graphically it looks fantastic and if that is what you are after then I would recommend. If you are after some substance then I would look elsewhere until you can pick it up for cheap!!

7/10

Offered nothing new to the genre. Just a prettier version of the same old button bashing. Story was average.

7/10.

It was a typical DMC game but for some reason, it must that spark that some of the other titles had.
