So far after four hours of playing I have to say it is superb. Am enjoying it a lot more than COD4. Just a shame really that its only been presented in DPL II and not DD 5.1, but c'est la vie.

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

How difficult is this game? - I find games like CoD4 or Dirt too much like hard work to be fun. Ratchet and clank is quite easy but makes up for it by being so fun and eventhough Skate is fairly tricky you can progress choosing which tasks you want to complete so you never get stuck at one point. Just wondering how this compares - are there various missions to choose from or is it a linear, 'complete every mission to carry on' game?

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

It is fairly linear, but there's loads of little mini quests to do when you've done the main assassinations..

Personally it gets a 9 from me.. Brilliant. The only things stopping it getting the perfect ten are the freezing and slight tearing issues (Experienced freezing twice now, not fun) and a couple of ever so slightly awkward animation changes, along with some issues of inexplicable AI... (eg: "Hmmm, someone just fell into that hay bail from the top of the tower... I'll not even flinch!").. But overall it is a stunning game. The locations are just superb. I described it last night as MGS in the crusades, and I think that really is the best way I can describe it to my mates

That depends on what route you wanna take through the game... If you wanna avoid detection and leg it across the rooftops then there's absolutely loads.. If you wanna blend into crowds and stealth it around that way, then you don't have to do much at all

No DD5.1, I thought Microsoft insist on DD5.1 on every game? Are you playing the PS3 version, are you sure it doesn't have 5.1 as I've never heard of this on any 360/PS3 games yet.

Thanks, I've been mulling over which version to get but that's sealed it. I'll get the 360 version which will have DD5.1

What are developers thinking shipping titles on the PS3 with pro-logic soundtracks

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

Well, unless someone can enlighten me on whether or not the info on the back of the game box is a misprint, then I have to go with what it says.

Oddly though, as mentioned earlier in this thread, I've turned the PS3 off, re-booted and reconfigured it to run on only 1080p, and the game runs perfectly. I've also turned my amp from DPL II to 5.1 and I do appear to have very separate sound stages from each speaker.

I'm going to drop UbiSoft an email to clear this one up I think.

the PS3 version has DD 5.1 I know the box says pro logic but it's wrong my Amp sees it as DD 5.1 and plays it as such. the box also says it only does 720p but if you disable all but 1080 it will run in 1080.

Also, can you please use the format as used in all the other polls. Keeps all polls consistent across AVF that way (360 and Wii polls use the same format).

Always an odd one when you increase the settings and it results in increased stability.

Have to say i am loving the game at the moment, just not sure what will come along next to replace it

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

I think its a good game. It looks great the visuals are stunning, when you climb up onto a view point in a city and look around, it almost takes your breath away. The horse is great, looks and acts just like a horse, its brill. The combat is simple yet effective, I love some of the counter moves you can make they look good and are brutal.

Then comes the gameplay itself. Its very repetitive, you have to enter each city the same way by saving someone outside. Everyone you save, they all say the same thing. The mini quests to get info on your target are all the same, and some just pointless. "I put up 20 flags around this area run round and collect them" - why would a trained assassin do that

Plus there are the crashes, four times at least I've had it crash on me, which is very poor so say the least.

Overall I think its good but it could have been so much better, if your thinking of buying I would suggest renting it may just save you some money

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

I dunno about saving people to get into cities, i just climb the walls and run across the beams above the guards heads.

It's only crashed on me once so far, and while that was a little annoying it's not the end of the world really. I read in another post on here that if you turn off the ticker on the xmb and sign out of network you get no crashes, i might try that later on.

I really enjoy the game visually, it's just about the best game looks-wise that i've ever seen. The gameplay itself is good, but all the missions seems very similar. Having said that, there's something to be said for a stealth kill and then legging it across the rooftops until the city guards lose sight of you.

The downsides are greatly outweighed by the good points with this game and it's a very worthwhile purchase if you like combat games where the emphasis is on stealth, poise and grace.

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

I posted this in Play and help but probably more relevant here

"played it for 5 hours straight now, graphicaly it's awesome but the moves are really limited you can only do things how it wants them to be done no real input from you for example you can't crouch, roll, kick etc combat is so lame you just wait for someone to attack you holding down r1 and then press square

and the whole idea behind the kills is lame I thought you'd have more freedom and there's no night time?

also why do the enemy soliders attack you because you're riding a horse, they only leave you alone if you do 2 miles an hour and bow your heed like a crack head on a come down"

MGS - it is not

Re: Assassins Creed - Review

I'll add my inpit to the game.

Graphically, the game is great. Apart from the tearing...this game looks great. Especially on the towers. The gameplay is let down by it's repetitiveness. Has anyone completed it yet? I'd like to know how many missions there are because this game could get a little boring over time. That said, it's an unusual game...and one I wouldn't normally buy but I am glad I did.

That is something that annoys me, canter along and your fine, into a gallop and the guards freak out, what is there a horse speed camera or something .

I gave it a score of 7 early this morning but the more I think about it, I think a 6 is all this game deserves.

and the whole idea behind the kills is lame I thought you'd have more freedom and there's no night time?

also why do the enemy soliders attack you because you're riding a horse, they only leave you alone if you do 2 miles an hour and bow your heed like a crack head on a come down"

MGS - it is not
It's not just because your riding a horse they do it if you run pass them on foot as well, you need to blend in ie use the X button so they don't bother you they then think your a monk who are held in high regards and don't get bothered by them, they may not let you pass some areas but they wont chase you or anything, don't forget they are looking for assassins, rushing in either on a horse or on foot isn't going to fool them.
