Ratchet & Clank Future:Tools Of Destruction PS3 Reviews

As there's a lack of review threads around I thought I'd start this one up.

My copies on its way over from Movietyme but I know some of you have already played through this game so what do you think?

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

I think its an absolutely stunning game, everything from the graphics to the gameplay and humour. its a real pleasure to play and i often find myself getting killed because i have stopped watching where i`m going and started looking at whats going on in the background. i wouldn`t call it genre defining, but what it does, it does to the higest level. i really can`t praise this game enough.

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

Could well be genre defining.... I was trying to think what game would be worthy of that, and one that is a shining example of that genre through and through.

I want to play it now!

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

Insomniac must be doing something right as this is another game which excels. I'm not sure it does anything differently enough to call it genre defining (as has already been stated by avolee), but it executes everything almost perfectly, so its a 9 for me. If this is an indication of the productions values they are committed to, roll on Resistance: Fall of Man 2!

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

I've completed it, and then just sold it on the forums!

The game graphically is fantastic, I'd go so far as to say the best looking game I've ever seen, really does feel like a Pixar movie!

It was a good game and I enjoyed going through it although I did become a little bored of the gameplay towards the end as it was all very similar (to be expected I suppose). Also once I've completed a game like this I'm not one to go back onto it again so it doesn't have much replay value for me, hence the sale.

I'd give it 8 out of 10.

Definitely worth a purchase and playing through.

Well it finally arrived today, better late than never!

Enjoying it so far, looks good and looks like there's a few side missions to keep me busy.

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

I'm about half way through this game now and I'm impressed. Graphically, as mentioned, it's an outstanding title and there's a reasonable amount of variety, in the missions, to keep you interested.

I do find some of the weapons are a touch overpowered and, over all, the difficulty just that little bit too easy but the humour and artistic style are enough to keep you coming back for more.

As wafc said, there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of replay value in it (it would have been great to have a MP element as previous versions) and for that reason I'd give it a 7 though it's probably more a 7.5

Favourite game on the PS3 so far

This game is absolutly first class..... everything about it is great fun, i'm now on my second time round and it's still as much fun as the first time...i'm normally a FPS man but COD4(which is an outstanding game) is sitting on my shelf having been played once, i will get back COD4, but for the time being this game is getting the attention it deserves....

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

I give R&C an underwhelming 6/10.

Graphically a fantastic looking game and the variety is enough to keep you amused for hours.

However, that's it's downfall. My girlfriend, who is not a regular gamer, has cleared the game in 4 evenings. That's not even 4 solid evenings of gaming as I've turfed her off the PS3 so that I can play CoD4 on a couple of occasions.

If this game had taken more than 8 hours to complete then I would have given it a significantly higher score as it excels at everything else, but it's too damned short for it's own good.

Such a shame too.

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

8 hours! I just finished and it took me more than a week, and thats not getting everything. Is there a stat saying gamehours spent?

I gave it a 7. It's very polished, wonderful fun (something lacking in many games nowadays), and entertaining with it's story and gameplay elements. However it isnt very advanced from earlier R&C games, which is why i scored it as "good". Certainly more worthy of playing than a lot of dross out there, but i like progressive games.

Note: I actually do think an average game scores a 5. So a 7 is halfway between average and mindblowing, and i cant think of many mindblowing games lately...

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

Finally finished this after taking my time to upgrade all the worthy weapons to full status, and collecting all the golden bolts and holo plan pieces. Easily the best platform/adventure game I've played in years. Not had as much desire to collect all the secrets since Mario 64. Unsurprising coming from the same developers, it's to 3D action platformers what Resistance is FPS IMO. Does nothing particularly original, but is a beautifully realised labour of love and consistantly brilliant at what it does from start to finish. Even the sixasis aspects are handled/calibrated superbly and gliding around the dinosaur world hunting down every last collectable was pure joy. How anyone could complain that it's too short is beyond me. The game is literally stuffed with things to do and I think the games only design fault is that it doesn't force you to do it. There's more than enough worlds to play through and it's very much a game where the more you put into it, the more you get out. Yeah, you could probably play through the game using only one weapon and going straight from A-B in each world. But it's far more rewarding if you regularly switch between weapons as part of attacking strategies, and make the effort to explore every nook and cranny for secrets. As I said though, the game doesn't force you to do any of that to progress which is a shame. Still, it's a great game with some geniunely funny dialogue and characters, some of the finest videogame eye candy ever, and is actually polished and finished before being released. A refreshing experience in more ways than one in gamings current state

Insomniac Games = PS3's finest developers as of Xmas 2008.

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

Finished this tonight. I enjoyed it a lot. It's a really solid, polished game that oozes high production from every corner. During no aspect do you feel the game is cheap or has been rushed. Idea are implemented well and although there are a lot of weapons you never feel confused by them all.

The upgrade system is well balanced and the difficulty set just right. Level design also needs a thumbs up. A linear game that never really feels linear and each world does feel suitably and satisfyingly different. The pace is perfect and the inclusion of often bizarre, new features throughout the game keeps you from getting disinterested.

And if you like collecting things this game manages to make it fun! Often collecting everything is a boring, labourious affair, undertaken only for bragging rights - but here it's actually achievable and gives a sense of reward meaning more people will go down the collecting route and get more bang for their buck.

Is it too short? I didn't think so, I thought the length was just right. I probably could power through it in less than a day, but in reality it's taken me almost two weeks and it's been much more enjoyable than the last 2 games I played (Super Paper Mario and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - both of which aren't too different to R&C).

In short, this game doesn't really innovate, though the weapons are all designed well and tactically allow great variety, but, everything it does do it does well - not to mention the strength of the graphics!

For me this game gets a deserved 8/10.

Re: Rachet & Clank any good?

Currently one of the best PS3 games available.
It is quite easy but if you went through the game and collected everything there is I should imagine it would take a while longer to finish it totally.

Absolutely Superb mate. Completed it and now working my way through the levels again with all my weapons, hunting for the extras scattered around.

Will be selling it once I have done that.

Would people recommend buying it for the £27.99 stated in the post above? Also have some points left at Game which could be used to further lower the price. Should I go ahead and place my order?

Yep go with Game but also go via www.quidco.com and youll get 11% back as well! So it works out at £25 overall Great deal, especially considering I paid £36.99 (less £3.33 quidco!)

Re: Rachet & Clank F:ToD - Review

I gave it a 7. First Ratchett game I've ever played, and I'm quite enjoying it. The graphics are superb, but the gameplay is a bit lacking. The game is far too easy and a bit repetitive. The humour is spot on, but I find myself getting rapidly bored by the 'plot' and not caring about the characters. Haven’t finished it yet as I have a couple of other games on the go, but will be finishing this soon judging by my weapons and upgrades.

A quite good game. Not sure why all this gushing praise is being heaped on it. It's hardly a Bioshock Or Mario Galaxy is it?

Only had my PS3 a few weeks & the first game I played is this (currys bundle). What a great game!
The graphics are fantastic (as everybody has already said), even on my non-hd plasma.
I will probably get a chance to play mario galaxy now!
