FIFA 08 PS3 Reviews

I thought it would be good to get some user ratings of FIFA 08 PS3.

Nice idea that will be ruined by muppets rating the game 1 (appalling) when it so obviously isn't that bad.

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

I hadn't bought a FIFA since 98', tried last years and didn't like it. This years is a really good game, Martin Tyler and Andy Gray are superb on commentary.

I'm also a fan of Be A Pro mode, improvements needed but gets a solid 8 from me.

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

An obvious 8 from me. It plays an excellent game of football especially when you switch off all the assists and play manually, gives it real subtlety and depth. Something I doubt many of the bashers have bothered to try.

I agree but its a shame that someone with such as opinion did not post with his explanation of his rating. 1 to me sounds pretty harsh - it sounds like he is a PES devotee........

I think he may be referring to the sad minority who have the "PES good, FIFA bad" mantra burned into their consciousness ... like many of the Play.com reviewers who said "FIFA will easily be beaten by PES when it is released". Which is gobsmacking because it implies that they a) won't buy FIFA due to PES alligience and b) review based on a game that wasn't released at the time.

Sigh.

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

Another solid 8 from me too. Thought it was a bit slow at first but now enjoying it very much (especially as I have now won a few games online !!)

I realise that the slightly slower pace was supposed to enhance the 'skill moves' etc (and it does to some extent), but it also has the benefit of making you 'play the ball' more and resisting the 'kick and rush' mentality. Still can't get away with the free kicks though. Most still go either straight to the keeper or straight into 'row Z'.

Very good and well worth the 'too many' hours I'm spending playing online at the moment

FIFA 08: 8/10

First FIFA i've owned as PES has always been the better game, but took a risk on buying it after not liking the demo very much. Glad I did, as it's a solid footie game with a wealth of options.

Marked down due to online issues, such as freezing and crashing (having said that seems to be better now than the first few weeks of ownership?), the goalkeepers are very inconsistant and do stupid things at times and also the player likenesses are pretty poor. Also would have liked to have seen better 'league' options online, as we have to use an outside website to handle the fixture generation and get a decent league table in our AVforum FIFA league. But a pretty solid 8 for the first PS3 footie game can't be bad!

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

Yep, tasty 8 - was tempted to do a 9, but its got too many little annoyances.

Hopefully when the 5 v 5 be a pro comes out, it could push it to a 9+ depending how well it plays.

Anyway, I am sufficiently annoyed enough with the online service from Sony that I am swapping FIFA 08 from PS3 to my new 360

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

Hi all,

Just ordered FIFA 08 from play.com, a very reasonable £24.99 including delivery which seemed like a very good deal!

I haven't seen it any cheaper and not sure if here is the right place to post the info? But I thought I'd mention it in case people haven't seen it.

Cheers.

Oh this is fantastic. Great game, £24.50!

Just trying Be A Pro mode.... love it. Managed to get in for a follow up with Ryan Babel for Liverpool. Real sense of achievement.

Wonderfully glossy presentation too. Love the link up with proper online scores, news and fixtures as well.

8 from me
knowing how good few features in (otherwise desastrous) PES 2008 are, prevented me from giving 9.

Best FIFA I ever saw.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but that's two acronyms and a word.

I rated it appauling because it's a game with awful gameplay. Nice presentation etc but if i buy a football game I want the players to respond instantly when i press the controller, not a second later.

Pro evolution may have poor replays but the gameplay is still spot on.

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

It gets a solid 8 from me.

Genuinely surprised by how good this game is. Always preferred PES until this year's shoddy effort from Konami.

This game has got me hooked in a way only PES previously managed - i am enjoying both the online and offline aspects of the game (although playing mostly online at the moment).

A few minor gripes stop me from giving it an even higher score. This year i bought both Fifa and PES but at the moment PES simply isn't getting a look in. If a patch comes along which actually fixes the problems with PES then it might be a different story but as things currently stand i can see Fifa spending a lot more time in the PS3 than PES this year.

Re: FIFA 08 : Review

I was going to give it an 8 but then the 5v5 be a pro mode came out and pushed it to 9. I've been a Pro Evo fan for years, it's always been better than FIFA, until now. I bought Pro Evo 2008 and FIFA 08, but I've now sold the former and the latter is my most played online game in ages.

The only slight annoyances so far (both in single player mode) is that good free kick takers like Pirlo will score every time, the keepers seem to move, then stop, then dive and never reach them. Also once I saw the ref blow for half time between a 20 yard free kick being taken and it hitting the back of the net - no goal awarded (bonus for me as I'd have gone 1-0 down otherwise!!)

can you still score from ridiculous angles in this game, cos that is something that has really annoyed me with fifa, it has all the glam but no realistic gameplay..

gonna have to try and demo me thinks.

Not that I've seen. Can score some absolute scorchers from 30-40yards out but it depends on what position the 'keeper is in, so pretty realistic on that front.

The two most annoying things for me are that you can ALWAYS score by dinking the 'keeper at the last second, and pull back goals are pretty much 100% effective and are still very hard to stop even when you know that's what your opponent is doing as the defenders just don't react fast enough.

If you play against someone who doesn't repeat the tactics constantly it's an awesome game. Oh and if your playing against Man U online watch out for the constant pass to Ronaldo, fly down the wing, stepover for authenticity, cross into the box, rinse and repeat.....a crunching tackle around the halfway line will more often than not injure him and you'll get away with a yellow max

Re: FIFA 08 PS3 Reviews

I bought this second-hand from blockbusters - hence the very late review

PRO
I love the "be a pro" functionality - very good idea.

SUGGESTION
I wish fifa would bring their editoral programming back in. I love creating myself playing for real madrid.

CON
I think the Resolution on this game is terrible, and will be shocked if its anything higher that 576dpi!! (PES2009 demo is just as bad) I have unticked the 720p and 1080i settings on xmb. Is FIFA 09 any better resolution wise?!

5/10 for me

5/10 for me

you need 09 mate,

The Pro mode is majorly expanded on (both online and offline) and also the editorial mode is back.

You can create a player from scratch to stick in any squad, or also create a player to use in the BAP Seasons mode, where you grow him from a reserve player to an international star

Resolution- im not sure, i think it looks better than 08, not as pin sharp though, but i just play it through hdmi on 720p and it seems fine to me.

Is fifa 09 full game better than fifa09 demo PQ wise? I wasnt too impressed with the demos of FIFA09/PES2009 graphics

it is better than the demo, but not by miles. there is still a slight softening on the players, so it isnt as sharp as 08.

you will find though with every year, fifa looks different, but you do get used to the change.

i still remember when i went from (PS2 days) Fifa 06 to 07, their was a stark difference in how it looked, and i hated it at first, but after playing it for a while i got used to it.

Same with 09, i hated the look of the demo, but since playing 09 since launch, i wouldnt change the look of it at all.

Perhaps rent it out mate first of all? probably the best thing to do
