Resistance:Fall Of Man PS3 Reviews

Seeing as Durera has done this in the 360 Games section, I suppose it makes sense to have a PS3 version so here goes.

So how do you feel about Resistance: Fall of Man, one of the launch PS3 titles?

Please! As a courtesy to others; avoid posting any spoilers in your reviews.

A 10 should only be given for a landmark game that sets new rules, a 9 for a truly excellent game without flaw, and an average game that does things right but nothing special should get a 5 (not a 7 or 8 like some would have you believe).

With thanks for Durera for providing the format (makes sense to keep it consistent across AVF).

Re: RFOM : Review

Overall thought this was a good game, first couple of levels were a bit 'meh' but it soon picked up and I actually started to enjoy the story ... it has quite a bleak feel about it.

So a very solid 7

When I first picked up and got into this game I thought it was very shallow.... I have now completed it three times and got the black ops kit A very very good game with longevity not found in many FPS's

Re: RFOM : Review

I think all things considering, it being a launch game, the online implementation and whatnot a solid 8 for me. Nothing genre defining but a solid game on & offline.

I will be more criticial the next time around though!

Re: RFOM : Review

An excellent game, with no conventional flaws [controlls, glitches, bugs, graphics]. Although linear, the game can be very challenging at times and the game is really brought into life once you got through some of the early levels.
A genre defining game, that MUST be played [or at least tried] by every PS3 owner.
To boot, it has an excellent online mode that will have you hooked for hours.

See in-game videos at:
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/1686.html

Note: Just writing this review has forced me to go and get this game again, as I bought it when it first came out and exchanged it after completion [6 days].

Re: RFOM : Review

Excellent game, stunning launch title, nice graphics, sound and story - only issues its too liner, there only every seems to be one route and it quite a tough game, and knows it (when you die it resets you to the last save point).

Online play is well implemented, and FREE

7 out of 10

Re: RFOM : Review

May as well chuck in my opinion.

Like others I wasn't too impressed initially - the demo certainly didn't sell me on it. Bit of a slow start but once Manchester hits it becomes a different game.

Graphically it's really decent but what I think most seem to not appreciate is the depth of vision and the amount of things going on; all without any noticeable slow down. There's some areas where you can see for what feels like miles giving some levels an amazing sense of scale. Coupled with the moments when there's a never-ending tide of chimaera (and what seems like loads of them on-screen), it really is quite a showcase for next-gen graphics. No tearing and slowdown is something that really needs commending.

The sound is good too; nothing outstanding but fits the game perfectly.

It has an engaging story, a great 2-player co-op experience, is superlative online, a form of achievements, is very intuitive and simple to control, and is ruddy good fun too. Oh, and the extra weapons for completing it are a lovely touch too!

There are some negatives however. There's not much in the way of environmental interaction (no footprints in snow!) that the likes of Black has done. Furthermore, I dislike the rather old skool feature of having many weapons at your disposal; I prefer the likes of Halo and Black's approach as it lends a more tactical slant to the proceedings.

For the type of FPS it is, I really believe it's up there. For me it's as good as Halo. It might not have the physics of Half Life 2, but for me it's a more enjoyable game. It easily sits alongside my favourite FPSs (Halo and Black).

So it's a solid 8 from me. I eagerly await the sequel and if they improve the level of environmental interaction, the sequel should be a 9.

Not really, but they are always over-cautious with ratings especially when guns are involved. Plenty of blood and deaths but nothing that will give you nightmares. The worst part is when you get grabbed from behind which really makes you jump, and on one occassion caused me to launch my controller across the room (you shake the controller if one of the hybrids start biting you!). It's a superb game offline and even better online, well worth £30.

Yeh i love this game! FPS are my favourite genre and initially i was slightly disappointed when i first started playing. I think it was just a case of "seen it all before" but after a couple of levels things pick up extremely and its a good storyline with some fantastic levels!

Re: RFOM : Review

An excellent 9

I thought Black was the best FPS I had played but RFOM was beyond Black.

The levels are well set out with plenty of interest throughout them. Weopons and surprises are well thought out and implemented.
I have completed twice and will play again.
The story line is gripping and well executed throughout the game and certainly keeps the game interesting.

I just hope they do RFOM 2 and its as good of course.

Re: RFOM : Review

Just started playing this. Was going to wait until I get my Z series Toshiba but after many emails to Tosh HQ stating that they were delaying my RFOM gameplaying time, I just gave up and started anyway.

1st impression. I died ALOT on the first level. I couldn't believe how nails the people were to kill. Deadly shots!
2nd impression. Gameplay reminds me alot of HalfLife. From the gradual aquisition of weapons, to energy pickups. Except there is a plot.

Someone mentioned Halo, and yes, one thing I loved about Halo were the huge ongoing levels like the assault on the control room. Resistance seems to be more along the lines of quick fix shots of missions. I would like to see if Haze or anything else can come out with a streaming gameplay style (anyone who knows HalfLife 2's 15 minute breaks to load will know what I mean).

But anyway. Up to Grimsby, still finding my feet. Intrigued by the WWII vs SciFi approach of the game and hoping I become a bit more deft and have some surprises in store for me. Also eager to check out online at some point too once I get used to the nuances of gameplay.

Noticed that its Incognito who are behind this, they seem to be doing alot! I've not even heard of them before...

It's Insomniac, the makers of the Ratchet and Clank franchise.

Re: RFOM : Review

An 8.5 option would have been better. I got it expecting a run-of-the-mill shooter nd to some extent, it is. However, it hints at the power of the PS3 when you see the level with the 2 stalkers, numerous bad-guys and good-guys slugging it out, all flying along quite nicely.

The story is interesting and the graphics are good, but not awe-inspiring.

Yes it is, the aliens all walk like Liam Gallagher and say "Hiyuh".

Unfortunately, none of the levels are set in Moston, where I work, so I can't comment. I'm sure there's an easy gag about violence, but I will resist the urge.

Re: RFOM : Review

I thoroughly enjoyed this game - ergo it gets a solid 8 from me

I play alot of FPS (on the PC) and don't really think Resistance pushed the boundaries - for the most part it was a bog standard shooter. But it had an enjoyable and engaging storyline which counts for alot IMHO. Furthermore it had a decent level design that took account of the 'gamepad only' control option and the enemies weren't bad (although like many games AI was pants).

I also liked the settings - fighting through York, Manchester and London was great. Some of the back-drops such as Clifford's Tower looked quite good and at times I stopped to take in the scenery - a game is winning when it gets you to do that.

Finally got this game and I must say its great, the graphics are probably the best I've seen on my PS3.

I started off quite slow doing the Rainbow Six style of hiding behind walls etc... then realised its not that sort of game and soon got the hang of running and shooting at the same time
